I'm Still Angry & Upset Finally, the cold weather we have had here has finally ended! It was such a pretty day, 68 degrees and sunny, and since my babies had been stuck in the house for about a month I decided to leash them up and take them for a walk. I have always walked all four together with no problem two in one hand and two in the other. They were really enjoying getting out and checking out the neighborhood. When I rounded the corner to turn down the next block, I passed about 4 houses, when out of an empty lot I spotted a little boy, must have been 6 or 7 years old walking a Bull Mastiff! My first reaction was this is going to be big trouble. I took a quick glance to see if a parent was with him, and wouldn't you know it - no adult!!! My next reaction was to pick up all 4 of my dogs. I had three in my arms when all of a sudden I am charged by at least a 115lb Bull Mastiff!! He knocked me down and all three fell out of my arms. All of a sudden I hear Bosley screaming- I turn around and this dog has him in his mouth shaking him back and forth. I grabbed the dog and started punching and screaming. He dropped Bosley so Ipick him up and now he has my Baby Zoey (2.5 lb) smashed on the ground and trying to pick her up in his mouth!!! Again I charge the dog screaming for someone to help me and punching and kicking till he releases her! Now I have 2 of my babies in my hand (still screaming for help) and Holly takes off running down the road crying because she is so scared. Cars are coming, I'm flagging at them and pointing down at the road so they can see her in the road and hoping they would get out and help me. Now that huge monster has my LuLu and I am frantically trying to keep site of Holly and now I'm thinking one is definitely going to be killed right before my eyes!!! Finally some man came from nowhere and grabbed the Bull Mastiff which freed Lulu and all I could do was run after Holly. By this time I was shaking and crying (I think I was in shock). Finally captured Holly and collapsed on someones front yard so I could check them for injuries. Was I shocked there was no blood or cuts. All of a sudden this woman appears and she is laughing and asking if we are all right????? Is she crazy or is it me???? She explained to me that it is her sisters dog and the 7 yr. old wanted to walk him and she thought it would be OK!!!! (still laughing she proceeds to tell me it is a very gentle dog. When I told her he attacked my dogs, she said yea, he only gets vicious when he sees other dogs!!! By then I told her I didnt know if my dogs were hurt until I get them to the vet to be checked still laughing she walked away. What is wrong with people to let a child walk such a big dog without supervision. Thank God, all my babies are OK and no one was hurt. Even my vet said it was a miracle. I called the police to make a report, and they said there was nothing they could do about it! If it was a child, I bet they wouldn't have said that! I just wanted them to be aware that there is a vicious dog in our neighborhood. What really got me was no one came out to help! I saw people looking out windows, cars driving by, and yet nothing. I think that is what made me so much angrier. Any way sorry for being so long, just needed to vent. Hold your babies tight and watch them at all times. |
WOW!!! This is HORRIBLE!!! I don't understand people. I'm so glad your babies weren't hurt. You are so lucky that he wasn't able to do something to them or that one wasn't run over when they were running away. This is just another sign to me that 1 dog is enough for me!! I would have been furious at that lady laughing!:mad::mad: |
You and your babies were extemely lucky that no one was killed! It is a sad world we live in that no one will stop to help you and your babies being attacked by a big dog. I am glad your babies were ok and you too. |
 What an ordeal!! I am so glad everything eventually turned out okay for your babies. It is a sad comment on the inhumanity of some people. |
wow what a story, i was out walking mine first time on the leash and a big dog across the street even though he too was leashed no way i thought to my self, picked up my baby i turned to go the other way and they other peoples said oh don't worry he won't do nothing, yeah right....i left that is really sad about these people not wanting to help! I sure would have been running out there to help you...glad your alright and no injuries to the babys |
Thank goodness you and your babies are okay, although understandably very shaken! What a terrible ordeal. To have the irresponsible woman laughing when you nearly lost one of your precious dogs -- You have every right to be furious. I too have had people laugh or scoff at me while their 100+ pound loose dog jumped on me as I tried to keep Maximo safe in my arms. |
First, Im so glad that your furbabies are ok. Second, there is something that you can do...You need to call the local animal shelter, and file a complaint. An animal control officer will come out and talk with those people and access the situation, I know they are very strict with stuff like that here in Florida where I live. I hope this helps. |
OMGosh....this is so horrible for you and your babies!! I am sooo sorry, but byt the grace of God they are all fine. It truely is a miracle! Now, I too, am very ticked off......what in the world is wrong with that ignorant woman!! How stupid is she to let a child walk a dog that size!! You could also have been seriously injured. As for the police....they sound like around here....worthless!! I truely don't know what is wrong with people anymore, to see a woman in such destressed and not even attempt to help. Thank God the man for out of no where showed up. I'm so happy you have all your babies and they are happy and healthy!! |
I am so glad that all turned out okay. I don't like it when people do not responsibly take care of their dogs. You can never know what will happen. :( I agree, I get anxious when I see other dogs (stranger dogs) with my 2 and I will pick them up, regardless of what the owner says. I hope your babies are calm now and do not have long lasting bad memories of this. |
I am so glad that your babies and you are all ok. |
How horrid! When I was about 13 or so we went out to Illinois to visit my godmother. At the time we had a brown toy poodle. when my mom stepped out of the vehicle and she set Brownie down, my godmother's malamute attacked my Brownie by his hips. he was hiding under the bushes by the front door All was well and my dog received some stitches. my godmother felt horrible about the situation and all i really remember about it was her hitting the dog in the back yard... I'm so happy things are okay. I think the Lady should be put down for being such an irresponsible owner! |
While not nearly as devastating as your ordeal, something similar happened to me. Last summer my neighbor and I were walking our Yorkies and just as we approached a hedge that came up to the sidewalk, a large dog charged us and grabbed her dog since it got to hers first. Her dog was yelping and we were frantic trying to get her dog away from it while I was winding up Chloe's leash pulling her to me and holding Willow in her "papoose bag". The owner came out and called her dog off and she was laughing too! She said practically the same thing, "he won't hurt anyone". I told her I didn't see how she could say that since he had my friend's dog in it's mouth so she just turned and walked back into the house. She was good enough to take her dog with her. We were scared and furious with that woman's attitude. I don't understand ppl at all. Since then I am scared to walk my dogs and going to the park is just as bad if not worse and my yard has a picket fence and is not safe to let them run. It's pretty bad when you feel unsafe just out for a walk with your dogs............I'm happy your babies weren't injured. |
there may be city regs that have been violated? i would call in a complaint to the SPCA. Everyone was at risk in that situation, what a nightmare. I am so sorry for you, going through something like that, and so happy to hear that your little ones are okay! |
I really don't know what to say, I couldn't imagine if I was in your position. Filing a police report was a good idea, and you should also take the other posters suggestion and call animal control. Chances are, if the mom says that's how she reacts around other dogs there may be a charge pending. Also, I would demand payment for the vet fee to check your dogs (even if there are no cuts or anything). How could she allow a 7 year old to walk that dog? Is that child neglect?? |

OMG Thank Goodness your babies are ok!! I wish I was there with you, I would have sooo kicked that dog's butt for you!!! How horrible that no one helped you any sooner! What in the world is wrong with these people?! They will get theirs! As for the stupid mother laughing at you, PLEASE send child protective services to her house! She laughed when that monster could have easily decided to turn on her child! What a sicko she is!!!! I agree with others here, call your local animal control and report that dog! As for that so called Officer of the Law, call his Chief or Sheriff and complain, if that doesn't work call your city manager's office or the local paper / news. See what they say then with the news media asking them questions!!! It's sickening to me to know that so many people looked on and didn't help you. Shame on them!!! ((((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))) to you and your babies!!!!! |
I really would have smacked the tar out of her. People are so ignorant and I am sorry you had to run into one like that. Glad everyone is okay Hugs and Kissies from us! |
Sorry to comment again but this is really bothering me. That woman didn't even ask if you were okay?? She didn't check on your dogs? She didn't even check on her own child?! Are there any laws by you where you can't own certain breeds? I know even town houses have rules like that. So sorry you had to go through this. |

Wow how awful Wow! How awful! So sorry you and your' babies had to experience this. This situation could have been one where alot of people were injured and also one that could have cost you the lives of your' precious babies. I am sooo glad that it turned out as well as it did with no injuries for anyone. I can't imagine anyone laughing at anothers fear and sorrow! The man that came to your' rescue in my eyes is a HERO and deserves an award for helping you!! Shame on all the others who just watched this terrible situation and did NOTHING to help!!!!! What is our fellowmen thinking? I personally would have been right in the middle of everything trying to help you in some way. Sorry for your' scare and again, I am so sorry but also so glad that everything turned out ok. Can you just imagine how scared that little boy was? I am sure he would have been devastated if that huge dog he was walking had killed one of your' babies!! He would have been scarred for life. NO CHILd should ever be placed in this kind of situation!! Very irresponsible if you ask me. Good luck with following up on all of this and I wish you well, it might just save another dog in the future. |
How scary. I am so glad you are all ok. Some people are so ignorant. |
what kind of cretin laughs at a situation like this? my guess is, she made the kid walk the dog because she didn't want to be bothered doing it herself. it sounds to me like she's either on something....or needs to be! i am soooo relieved all is well. i'd call it a miracle, indeed! |
Your story made me mad too. It makes me rethink walking in the park across from my house. Do you think the paper would print your post in a letter to the editor? How could that woman laugh at something like that? I liked the idea about calling animal control. It would at least feel like you have some say. I'm glad you and your babies are all ok. |
I'm just shocked after reading this. I probably would have had a heart attack myself. |
I have to agree with another poster..I would have smacked the tar out of that woman  To be laughing like nothing was wrong shows what an irresponsible person she is. Will she still be laughing when the dog turns on her son? I'm glad your babies are OK and weren't physically hurt. I can't imagine the fear you must of been feeling. I'm glad someone did step up and help you. But I will be honest here and say if I saw a 120 lb. mastiff attacking another dog , I don't really know if I would run out and put myself between it either. I am terrified of big dogs , so while I would have screamed from my door to try and get the dogs attention , I know I wouldn't have ran outside...maybe thats why no one came...fear. I think you should call animal control. There has to be something that can be done , if not why bother even having laws? Yeah , he was on a leash but that leash was attached to a child who had no business walking that dog alone. |
Horrible How can people be SO dumb? Honestly, what a DUMB idea to let a child walk a huge dog like that. What if the dog had seen a squirrel across the street? Did she think her son would be able to keep him from running in front of a car? What if her son's hand had been tangled in the least and got dragged along with the dog? Clearly that woman has NO ONE's best interests in mind, not even her own dog and child. |
I hate to keep repeating what everyone else has said but I do feel badly for you. My blood pressure was rising as I read your story. While I normally don't fear too many dogs - there is just something about our little furry babies that trigger other dogs - I think it's their size (NOT that yours did - just in general). Anyway, after watching a u-tube video of a dog attack, on a dog beach, in CA my husband and I decided to get a zapper. We bought it at our local indoor flea market and carry it on walks. We made sure that it had enough power to take down 150 pounds. I hope I never have to use it but if that's what it takes... Hope your babies are ok and that they don't have problems from this. |
I'm so mad at the woman for laughing at the whole situation. You were about to get heart attack, and she laughed at you!. It's beyond rude! The boy's parents or whomever was in charge of the dog who let little boy to take such big dog for a walk should be responsible!!!!! I'm so glad that none of your babies got hurt. They must had guardian angels over their shoulder. Bless you for doing your best to protect them! Such strong yorkie mom!!! to go against mastif |
After having a couple of large dogs come after Darwin I am going to invest in dog pepper spray. If that doesn't work my next step will be bear spray!! I'd give that stupid woman a shot to the eyes (just to give her something else to laugh about!!!):D:D I'm really glad your babies are okay - you should feel really proud of yourself!! |
