| ![]() I talk to my doggies so much but with Tobie sometimes I feel like I am talking to a toddler because he understands so much of what I say... more than any of my other dogs or any other dog I have ever had. If I say, "Go get get McSquizzy".. (his squirrel squeaky toy)... He will run around and look under couches and in his toy basket until he finds it and then he brings it to me. If we go outside sometimes he won't want to stay out very long and will run back to the door. If I want to stay out longer, I will say, "Where's Caz?" and he will turn around, spot Caz, and take off after him. Sometimes I seriously think he's too smart for his own good. LOL. From what I have read on here, it seems like most Yorkies are.

| ![]() YES! All the time, lol. Jackson loves to visit over my dad's house (and his 2 dogs) and I always tell Jackson ahead of time, "Do you wanna go see Lily today?" and his head turns like crazy. Then I go thru the list... daddy, Buddy, Camron... lol. And when we're almost to his street, I say "we're almost there!" and he starts freaking out, scrambling around, and goes to stick his head out of the window to sniff, ha. He definitely understands a lot.

| ![]() I do think Yorkies are very intelligent. Scooter is a bright little guy. He loves being out in the yard but if I say "it's time to come inside now", he runs for his pet door and races inside. Also all I have to say is "stay in the house now" and he doesn't go outside.

| ![]() I sure do..mine is the same...seems to understand everything & I swear sometimes he talks back with the little sounds he makes. If I say "no" to him it sounds like he says "oooh" & pouts! Also, he studies my face like a human baby does, when I'm holding him, he just stares up at me. I think yorkies are amazing & wouldn't trade mine for anything |

| ![]() It amazes me that Stella knows the names of all 20 or so of her toys and if I ask her "Where's your red ball?" or "Go find your bunny" she'll look around for it until she finds it...and then bring it to me to play. So funny to watch her frantically search for them too! I love the head turns to say "YES, mom!" and their little expressive ears. I just know they understand more than we could know. |

| ![]() I read, somewhere, that these little york'sters have the emotional maturity of about an 18 month old baby...I really try to remember that little ditty, so I can communicate and treat them in a way that works for them...I guess that's why we call them our babies...Because they are ![]() |

| ![]() Isn't it CRAZY what they understand? Layla knows many toys by name- we have to spell Ball or else she will go CRAZY looking for it. I spend a lot of my day talking to her because I know she is getting what i am saying ![]() |

| ![]() Loved reading all your posts! We have to spell the word play, but we're going to change it because when we get to the "A"...that sounds too much like "Play" and both girls have started standing up and looking at us. lol Yep, mine know the names of toys too! Annie (my 6 yr. old yorkie) knows what every move I make means. When I hurt myself and say a bad word, she looks at me with concern, then comes over and acts really sorry. She knows the word "ouch" because that's how I taught her not to bite when she was a puppy. I'd yell OUCH, get up and walk away, put hydrogen peroxide and a band aid on it and come back and show her. She really seemed to "get it" and stopped biting immediately. I can open the back door and say "no you can't go out yet", and they freeze in their tracks! They also know the tone of our voice, along with the words we say. I pretty much talk to mine all day long, so they know me very well. lol

| ![]() Aw, I love all the stories. I think the reason he's so smart is that he's so curious/nosey. He has to know what I'm doing at all times. When I put on nail polish, lipstick or anything new, he has to come over and sniff it. I had a wisdom tooth pulled a week ago and I told my husband, "As soon as I pick him up he's going to sniff my cheek."... and he did! If I'm on the laptop, laying in bed, he will walk up behind the laptop and look down at the screen like he's saying, "Whatcha doin?" LOL. Sometimes it drives me crazy when I am trying to get something done and he's all up in my business but I do love that about him.

| ![]() My mum lives in the same street as me and when we visit, i say to Molly 'lets go and see Granny'. She gets all excited and knows which house to go to. we go the same way if we are going to the field to play, but if i say we are going to Grannys, Molly drags me straight there! If i say we are going out in the car, she will go and stand by the car door, ready to get in. Yorkies are so bright, its frightening! ![]()

| ![]() Yes I always talk to my fur butts and they act like the understand everything. I think they are too smart for their own good. Daisy actually knows the word go. Today I was so busy getting things done bc I gave Pixie a bath and I was putting some things away after shopping and Daisy kept following me around as to tell me something and I was like what is your problem and she went over to her dish like you IDIOT where is lunch!!! lol I completly forgot.

I tell everyone that having Yorkies is like having toddlers forever!! When all three dogs are running to go outside, Wrigley isn't that wild about being outside and usually runs out for a second and back in before I close the door. So I usually say, "Wrigley do you want out or in" and I swear she stands on the deck a second and looks to the yard and house like she's trying to decide which is best! When I'm walking to sit on the couch, I usually say "who wants to sit with me" and they come over and wait for me to sit down and then they jump up on my lap! They are smart!!
