Average weight of a YT puppy.. The breeder who is sending Bentley to me on Friday tells me that he is 4 or 5 lbs ...is that normal for a 9 and a half week old puppy? I kno that by adulthood, the YT weighs up to 7 lbs..but I am not sure about puppies. Thanks! Erica |
That seems rather big for the average 9 week old puppy however, I am not a breeder. I know you will get a lot of good answers/advice on here. I got Jasmine when she was 8 weeks old and I received a lot of good advice/knowl.edge from here. Welcome to YT and have a great day. Enjoy your new puppy! |
Just wondering if he is already 4-5 pds or if she is telling you that is hes aprox adult weight.... did you ask the weight of the parents or see thier picture??? An estimate age can be extimated by doubling the weight at 12 weeks or tripling it at 8 weeks My puppy was 2.8 pds at 12 weeks she is a 1 year old spayed female and weighs 5.4 pds.. so it did work in my case but there are many who did not. He could be an 8 -12 pd adult if you went by the weight charts... but it really does depend on the parents... To me it sounds like the parents may not have been " standard" yorkies.. ;) |
All pups are different. Jackson was 5lbs at almost 9 weeks old and he now weighs 12lbs at 1 year! He's just a bigger boy! :) He was 6lbs at 12 weeks so he doubled in weight. |
My pups are 1.12 ounces at 9 weeks and I expect them to be 5-6 pounds grown. I think if he is already 4 pounds you are looking to around 10+ pounds grown. |
well he said that the parents are 7lbs a piece. I want Bentley to stay small. I'm not really sure what to think. When I asked him how much Bentley weighs right now he said "i am not sure, 4 or 5 lbs". I saw a picture of him from what it looked to be Christmas time and he looked tiny..I wonder if the breeder just wasn't sure of his weight and guessed......... |
If Bentley is 4-5lbs at 9.5 weeks old there is no way he will be small or within standard. He's barely 2 1/2 mos old. He has some growing to do yet. There are times puppies get bigger than their parents. My guess would be Bentley will be around 12lbs full grown possibly bigger. If you take the weight at 3mos and double it that just a guess but approx. Bentley will be over standard. Buddy was 6.5 at 14 1/2 weeks I also thought he grew during puppy hood. Today he is 16lbs. If your hoping for a tiny, Bentley will not be one. But he will be beautiful, hopefully healthy, loving and the best dog you ever could imagine owning. |

It's really hard to tell by a pictue, however, he looks like a big boy, healthy and adorable. It's up to you. If your looking for 7lbs and under Bentley will not be that, IMO. If you want 7lbs and under talk to the breeder and she if she has a sibling perhaps smaller. You won't be sorry with a bigger Yorkie at all but if your heart is set on standard, you need to look elsewhere. |
At a year and a few months old Tucker is around 9/10 pounds, (havent wieghed him lately, but dont think he has gained) anyways at 8/9 weeks he was 2.5 pounds and when I had him spayed at 4.5 months old he was 5 pounds. If your pup is already 4/5 pounds then he will probably 12 pounds or more. There is no way that he will stay under 7 pounds. My "little" guy came from parents that were 4 pounds a peice so you cant really go by that either..:).. They come in all shape and sizes and even though your pup may get over 12 pounds they are still considered small..:) Im sure he is cute as a button.. |

In the picture, he looks to be a big boy (although very cute). I also noticed they haven't shaved his little ears. I would think the breeder should know exactly how much a puppy weighs. You can never tell for sure with a Yorkie baby. It depends on not only the parents, but grandparents, etc. One really has to know the line to make a prediction. This is another reason I really suggest people don't buy over the internet, but from a breeder they can visit or at least have really good first hand knowledge of. |
He's a cutie, but he does look to be bigger for a 9 week old puppy! Wrigley was 1.13lbs. when we brought her home at 12 1/2 weeks and she's 6lbs even. Crosley was around 4lbs when we got her at three months and she's around 16-17lbs. |

Well, I will love him dearly no matter what he weighs. I am just confused because his parents are only 7 lbs. I guess there is no way for me to tell his size until I get him and watch him grow. I did have my heart set on a Yorkie I could take with me everywhere. |

You could still take Bentley just about anywhere you would take a smaller one unless you wanted to put him in a purse and even then you are fairly limited (around here anyway) in the places you can bring a dog in to. He will still be a small dog as dogs go. Be sure and post when he's home with you. Friday is just around the corner :D |

Hes gonna be a bigger yorkie. I have one thats 11 lbs and Im glad hes bigger. He can jump off the couch and bed and I dont worry about him breaking a leg. He is just alot more durable than my other 6 lb yorkie. Im sure you will love him no matter his size. |

It is hard to go by parents weight, my Sophie is 6 lbs 3 oz..... mom was 4.5 lbs and dad was 3 lbs...... I like her size and am glad she didn't turn out as small as her parents. |
OH NO!!! I have no idea what to do if he is from a puppy mill. I have already paid in full for him. I was so sure this breeder was honest, I have looked at reviews from other buyers and everything. I'm completely clueless. I want Bentley to be okay :( |
