| ![]() You cut painters tape (what you use to tape off when painting) into a triangle about the size of the inside of the dogs ear. I would make it two or three layers thick. I would take Joey to the groomer to shave his ear. She only charged $3.00 to do it. you put the tape on the inside of the ear and take another piece of tape, just long enought to wrap around the ear to secure the triangle. Be sure to take the tape off every 3 days to allow the ears to breathe. After about 15 weeks of age, I would secure the two ears with a strip of tape running from one ear to the other. Joey's ears didn't stand until he was about 20 weeks. Teething does have alot to do with the ears standing. If you tape them for a few days and they stand but then fall, I wouldn't worry too much as it seems the teething could be a problem. His ears would be standing, then if he would get tired they would fall. Massaging the ears is also very good for them. I used the blue tape and my family and friends started calling him BLUE Ugh... to be picked on. Good Luck, hope they stand soon. |

| ![]() I just use a Wahl brand beard and moustache trimmer. They are cheap, mine was 12.99. You do have to train them to get use to it, just like with any part of grooming. With both Missy and Dora, I tried getting my husband to hold them for me, it didn't work. I don't have a grooming table. So what I did was, put their harness and leash on, and tie one end to my towel rack above the bathroom sink. That way they couldn't fall off, and they were up high and didn't feel as though they should wiggle as much. You have to be very patient. I turn the razor on and let them sniff the end that doesn't cut, because they are curious about what it is. Then I will rub it on their ear, again without using the razor edge, just so they can see that it won't hurt them. Once they are good and calm (it's a long process), I will try shaving just a bit. I lay the tip of their ear flat on my one hand, and just shavethe back and front of the tips of the ears. It's really easy. I never have to trim around the edges with scissors, the razor gets close enough that the edges look nice and neat. Then tonsssss of praise and treats when you are finished. If you take the calm, patient approach...it will be worth it. Missy is an absolute gem now when I trim her ears. She stands so nice, and she has ever since the 3rd time I shaved her ears. I've only done Dora's once so far, she's due for her second trimming. Hopefully she gets use to it soon too. Good Luck with whatever you do. Hope those ears stand soon for you. ![]()

| ![]() Okay, this is the weirdest thread I've read here so far, I'm guessing it's not a joke. Is this some kind of thing like how the Chinese used to tape their daughter's feet all up so they would be more attractive to a mate?? I will ask Frisco about it in the morning. |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | ![]() oh my goodness! So i tried the clippers...wayy to loud, they scared her and i almost cut her!! Then i bought this little trimmer by Conair that is used to cut your ear and nose hairs but it was also too loud and the thing got hot, she moved too much. Then i literally shaved them with my good razor, water and puppy shampoo and that worked cause it made no noise, i kept her still and did it gentle. I was only able to get a little bit though, just the very tip :/

| ![]() I know, the razors are loud, that's why it takes some time to get them use to it. Missy doesn't even bat an eye though, so it can be done. Good for you for finding a way to get'er done though. I can't believe that you were brave enough to use a regular razor, but it worked! I'll betcha her ears end up standing all on their own anyways. Not to worry ![]()

I will post pictures of the duct tape when I figure out how. PS Frisco says if your yorkie's ears were supposed to be up, they would be up. He's surprised you guys haven't figured that out, he heard that people were supposed to be pretty smart. Last edited by friscomom; 01-07-2010 at 05:13 AM. Reason: Frisco had something to add | |
