| Stairs Callie has recently hurt her shoulder we think it might have been due to jumping so she is on medicine that is supposed to reduce swelling and help pain, but we bought her some stairs for the living room couch and I have used treats to get her to go up and down them and shes doing down great but up is really a problem she will just jump clearing the stairs and landing on the couch and when I made her walk up them she will not use the top step she jumps over it! Any suggestions? Do I just keep using the treat and praise and eventually she will get it? Any suggestions or ideas would be awesome!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would keep trying and make her go slow by holding a treat at each step. I use a ramp and whenever I brought in a new puppy I would spend an hour or two having the go up and down and they pick up pretty quick. The foster pom puppy I have right now had no trouble going up but would have trouble going down but after a few days she learned to go slower.

| My dad bought steps for his Jack Russell/Shih Tzu mix who has really short legs and she still won't use the stairs. Or at least rarely. I think it's difficult when you've had a dog able to just jump on the couch or be picked up on the couch for a long time to understand what stairs are for. I think practice makes perfect though! Good luck

| When hubby made a ramp for our bed for Gypsy, we took her up and down it by holding her and her feet just touching it. Then we encouraged her to climb up it herself with us egging her on. All of our pups have learned quickly this way.

| Sometimes with the ramp, if it is placed flat on the floor and let them walk on it and then start to raise it as they become use to it, they will become use to using the ramp quicker. They are then only trying to overcome one fear at a time. With the steps, try enclosed steps first, then steps without sides. |
