Honestly? As many as your city allows a home to have!

If you work full time then 2 is a good number

WOW, I could have written your post! I feel the same way about mine. My DH and I both would like to get a third yorkie, which would bring our furbutt grand total to four, but I know we should stick with the two yorkies and our schnauzer for now. I know our beloved Fancy will not be with us much longer, and I so dread that day when she leaves us forever. Maybe then we will get another yorkie to add to Rily and Saydee and try to fill the big hole Fancy will leave in my heart, but for now, three is enough.

I think I'd be happy with two, so I'd have enough time to spoil each of them.

Then there is the grooming. If you can do it yourself, there is only the ititial cost of clippers, table, supplies, etc. But if you take them to a groomer, that is an on-going expense.

If you have the expenses covered, then I think you should look at your lifestyle. Do you stay home all the time or like to travel? Do you work all day? Do you live alone or with a spouse, roommate, children? How do they feel about dogs? Can they handle multiples or would one or maybe two be best?

If you have a houseful, what would happen if you wanted to take a vacation? What if you get sick and can't take care of them? Who is going to come to your house and Yorkie sit?

If you work, probably 2 would be good so they could have company.

I just have one, and here is why:

- I can take her with me most of the time. If I absolutely have to I can sneak her in a purse.

- It is easy to go visiting. Not many people want you to show up at their house with 2 or 3 dogs. With just one, I can put her on my lap or put down a blanket and give her a bully stick to keep her occupied. I keep her on a leash so I can fully supervise. No piddles on their carpet or chances of her getting into gum or chocolate or escaping out the door.

- At our house I will know who the culprit is. (pooping, peeing, tearing up toilet paper, etc) Two are like children. They will do things they would never think of alone. (Bubba did it, not me!)

When the mailman arrives, or strangers come to the door, I can grab her up easily and calmly tell her it is okay and to quiet. Two or more set each other off. One starts it and the others follow -- yap! yap! yap!

- With one they get all the attention. But you have to make sure they get socialized well and remember that YOU are their playmate most of the time. When it is their wild time of the day, it it YOU that needs to play chase, hide & seek and all that.

These are the basic reasons I have an only child. I think about it a lot because I would love to have more. I see all the people on YT getting puppies and rescue pups and I get very VERY jealous. I am trying to control myself. Don't know how much longer I can resist!

When you tell people you are not going to do something, you usually turn around and do the opposite! But for now, Daisy will remain a member of the "Spoiled Rotten Club."
I think this is the first post I've ever read that details the benefits of having just one! I have been wanting to get a second for several months now, but DH is still saying no. After reading this, I'm starting to wonder if it really is better for us to just have the one, especially given all the traveling we do. Great post!

I think any number greater than 1. I think they help each other through rough times ie: food competition, who's in front on the walks, who's in the lap, bed, has toys, blankies, pillows, who barks first at the noise, who can jump the highest, who gets their head in all the grocery bags first and finds the treats, who can get to the bathroom first when Mommie has to go without tripping her up so she pees her pants!, and who gets belted in the van first when we all go to Petsmart or the park, and who gets out the door, doggy door and gate first, and who gets back first, who can pee the most, group sniffs, group pees, group poops, group growls (once synchronized)...etc. Having one is just too easy! I don't know what to do with an empty hand?
I tried putting both hands on one leash but it only would go in one direction!

I just have Callie and although she really loves to play with other dogs she eventualy gets tired and just wants it to be her and her mommy. She is never left alone so its not like she needs someone to keep her company when she is alone because she never is plus I can give her all my attention, spoiling, money and such too. Plus at least when she needs me to carry her around I have one free hand to do things with lol she loves to ride on my hip like a baby. One really just works for Callie and me great for now one day I might have a house full.

Currently I have six. There are times that I ask my self what were you thinking?, and I say that I have too many, but I wouldn't trade them for anything.

We have two. We both work and our daughter is in school, so I think two is a great number. They keep each other company during the day. I can carry both of them if needed or my daughter can.

Two fits perfectly in my lap, I can carry them both and my shopping bag, purse or coffee I am not sure if I had more than two I would be able to take all of them to some of the places that I bring them now. Two fit well in a dog car seat(there is not a third strap) Hubby and I can take two on a plane(1 each) It is alot harder to get someone to pupsit more than 2. There is no shortage of attention or spoiling They are there for eachother, sleep together, playtogether. I hope to always have them in pairs.

I'm right there with you! I have 6, and at times I think, Good God Girl, are you outta your mind?! But, you know what, at night when they all find their place in bed with me and DH, snuggle down and I get my nite-nite sugar........wouldn't trade it for anything! Love my babies!

I have 3 dogs in the house now. ( Wow that sounds crazy hehe ) Two are yorkies and one is a bull terrier. I think if my bull terrier was any bigger then she is ( about 40 lbs ) I could not handle it. I could not have a huge dog. I am finished though, no more dogs. I would love a houseful of yorkies but really my lap is only so big and I know I can't afford any more dogs. Right now I feel it's just perfect that we added a boy. My fiance and I both have a yorkie to cuddle and have on our lap lol.

I know I wouldn't of been able to add another large dog, I wouldn't have 3 dogs if it wasn't for yorkies being so small.

If I could have a whole bunch I would! lol But i think the least is 2...or if it's only 1 person living by themself then 1 is fine, also if they travel a lot they can take it with them. But if it's more than 1 person, like 2 or several ppl then i think 2 to 4 Yorkies are good to have. They play with one anther and it's so much fun to see them play. I think one dog per person in the household is good too. Like me and my bf had 3 yorkies and we go back and forth to each others houses all the time but we would take all 3 with us where ever we go and it was easy cause they are small. Right now we have 2 but I would like to have 3 again or 4 eventually. But i would like all girls and then Teddy will be the only male

Wow! I am really surprised by the wide variety of feedback! I love it! There are so many great points for one, or multiples.
