Default Should I be concerned with this?

Hello,
the first night with the new puppy was of course routine. We settled him downstairs and he cried cried cried. We of course left him alone and went to bed.
However when playing with him this afternoon I noticed that he had a large blood vessel near his eye. I checked his other eye, and he had the same thing. His right eye has a 2 large bulging blood vessels while his other had only one. They are close to his pupil.
I imagine this is from stress from being separated and crying non-stop, but these are very large looking and I'm a bit concerned.

Has anyone ever had this type of thing happen? I'm worried it will get worse if he keeps crying at night. His appetite isn't that great either. This is the first puppy I've had that doesn't have a large appetite.

Awww, puppies instinctually want to be a part of the pack. Can you not bring his crate or whatever he sleeps in into your bedroom at night?

How old is your little one?

Yorkies are toy companion animals and need to be with other dogs or their owners. Just think your little one came from a home with his mom and brothers and sisters and is scared. He is crying because he is lonely and I really think you need to move him to your bedroom.

Is there a reason you won't let him sleep with you?

Wink

Havent had the blood vessel to happen but we got michaelangelo a week ago. He cried all night and I did go to the dollar store and bought a stuffed small puppy and he snuggles up to it at night (Don't get one with those eyes and noses that can come off though). Just letting you know it helped a little. He is getting use to us and don't cry as much, but him sleeping passed six is impossible lol...

Well I've never thought about it because my first two dogs cried and I left them alone in their crate (outside our bedroom) and they eventually learned to adapt fine.

My other yorkie does not sleep with us in our room, and I thought it would be somewhat unfair also. I want them both to have equal footing.
The other reason being that he pees every 15-20 minutes. I'm thinking of having him stay in our bedroom tonight to see how that goes though. I hope it will help.
He's 9.5 weeks.

Reesie has the same problem with his eyes. I asked the vet about it and he said they were irritated from his hair getting into his eyes. I've tried to keep his hair trimmed around his eyes and it has seemed to help. The blood vessels have started to clear up. Another thing we did with Reesie when we first brought him home is that we fed him in his crate and had him take his naps in there as well. That way he was familiar to the crate by the time it was time for bed. Hope this helps.

Ah yes, your baby is very young. Most people would say too young to even be away from his Mommy and littermates, but I think you will find it much easier to bring his crate in your room. Good idea to give him a stuffed animal to snuggle with, and maybe just put your hand on or in his crate when he cries. Just so that he knows you are there for him.

I'm a total softie. I just bring my yorkiegirls in my bed. I've "yorkie proofed" my bed so that noone can fall off or wander around. I have read of alot of people just bringing the crate into their room though. You could even set it up on your end table. I've also seen people post that it helps to cover the crate with a blanket.

Good Luck, I hope you both get a good nights sleep tonight.

Thanks for this tip! I looked around his eyes and did find some hairs sticking up and the ends were near the vessel. I trimmed around his eyes just in case this was Lewie's problem too. Lewie has been spending time with us lately in our room and hasn't cried as much. Thanks everyone! What would I do without YT?!

Awwww, good luck with your new baby. He sounds just precious. So you have 2 yorkies? Are you letting them share an area at all? or are you keeping them separated as well? This could be why he is crying. Is there a way to let them stay together?

Also can you put something in with him that has your scent on it so he can smell you? Maybe that will help alleivate some of his anxiety? Good luck.

With a new puppy we always have them in a soft crate on our bed. That way they are with you but can't get hurt. Also they learn to hold their pee a little longer, and they have always woke me up when they needed to go outside....

Hope this helps good luck sleep well

My little Rocky, who I got as an adult, would cry in his crate at night. He had the most pitiful sad puppy cry that i have ever heard. He was known for his cry on the show circuit according to his first mommy. she said that other exhibitors would hold him because his cry was so sad sounding. The thing that helped the most was to set him next to my bed and stick my hand by the crate so that he knew that I was there, this calmed him until he fell asleep. He was really the sweetest baby ever. It sounds like your new baby is very sweet too, I bet with a little extra reassurance he will learn to fall asleep on his own.

I wish we can have them stay together. So far they only have supervised together time because Manolo (older female yorkie) is jealous and hasn't really accepted him in the pack yet. She has barked at him fiercly and gnarled - obviously not in a playing manner. But this evening Lewie has been great - not much crying. I just have to get him excited about eating his food.
