| She's not very playful I have a yorkie that is a little over a year old and i'm kinda getting disappointed. She's not very playful. We got her because we thought she would be a great playmate with the kids, but she's not - she sleeps more than anything. We try to get her riled up but nothing seems to work. ANy suggestions |

| Hi, You have to find out what really excites her be it a treat or a toy and entice her with that. Also you have to be supper animated and excited as well she will follow. Does she know any commands like sit, stay, down teaching those creates a great bond between you and the dog, and can be transitioned into other things she can do with the kids. Quote:

| Gypsy, who is now 3 yrs old has always been that way. She never one to play with toys. She would stack up in a pile or take them out of the table cubby hole we would put them in> But to actully play with them, no. She is a cuddle bug only. I always thought it had to do with the breeder, not a very trustworthy person in my opinion. May just be her personality though.

| Cleo is like that but sometimes she will play with max and other times she won't.(i think she has to be in the mood) i normally try to get her really exited like making high pitched sounds and that usually works but only for a short while. She's getting better at playing more i think because if Max wants to play she has no choice.

| Thanks everyone. She gets excited with treats and does know some commands, but just isnt very playful. she'll play with her favorite sock for about 5 minutes then it's like it tires her totally out. i was worried about her health but that seems to be her nature. I'm not sure what to do now. It breaks the kids hearts cause they think she doesn't like them *sigh* |

| How old are the kids? Some dogs like Agility training I am sure you can look up some excersises on the computer and have the kids do them with her. This way they will feel involved. |

| A one year old should still be pretty energetic. Has she ever had bloodwork done? A bile acids test? All those should have been done when she was spayed, but if she hasn't been spayed yet I suggest you get the bloodwork done. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | It could probably be her personality. How-ever physical problems should be ruled out first. What we did with our little ones was make a big deal over toys. We sat on the floor with them, enticed them with toys, great excitment in our voice etc. We clapped for them when they ran to get the toy, etc. Also try some different kinds of toys, squeakies, soft toys, harder toys, etc. But our two boys are just crazy over toys, play with them all the time, and our girl Zoey not so much. But she loves to run and chase the toy. We are still working on having her retreive the toy. I like the idea of agility classes, It's a whole parcel of fun, and she will be exposed to other dogs all excited and yapping. Maybe if one of your children are old enough they can take her to a lesson or two.

The 3 Musketeers Donating Member | My Misty who is 3 years old is very laid back. Maybe once a day she'll get animated and run with Cassie, 6 month old Maltese and Mazie, 13 years old for about a half hour. Then she'll cuddle with me on the couch and watches TV or just snoozes. I was at my doctor's office Friday and my doctor was really impressed with how quiet and mellow she was.
