| Welcome to YT ![]() Hair - Yorkies have hair and therefore prepare for grooming, unless you cut them real short. Grooming can be fun for you both if you do it right ![]() Teeth - They have to have their teeth brushed regularly and they don't like it at all (most of them that is). Around 7-8 months you must get the milkyteeth that hasn't fallen out pulled out by the vet. Cold in winter - you'll have to spend money on a warm jacket. If it's a bitch she will need warmth on her belly - not easy to find a good coat, but here on YT there are several people who sell good coats. (And make them) Rain - Yorkies don't like rain and you can have a hard time convincing them to go outside for a pee if it rains. House training - it takes forever and you would go nuts if they weren't so goddarn sweet. Luckily their poop is very small and if you stick to dry food, also quite solid. Temperament - you have to teach a yorkie who's leader of the pack from the beginning - puppy training is very good. Otherwise you could end up with a house tyran. Yapping - not all yorkies yap a lot but some do. It can be hard work to teach them not to and some will never learn 100% - it's their way of communicating. Size - you have to learn not to step on them - slowly you will learn to look down before you move your feet. But every yorkie is different and you could get a yorkie who loves rain and toothbrushes. So it's hard to say what will drive you nuts. But from what you write about your self, I wouldn't worry about it - you'll be a great yorkiefriend ![]() Good luck Mette

| Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I can add to this - I have 2 girls - 3 & 1 year old AND a 9 year old cocker spaniel - My yorkies ADORE her and they get along great. As far as housetraining - Chanel was completely trained in LESS than 2 weeks old and Cheri took approx 9 months - they are all different in personalities and habits. Having a yorkie brings so much joy to my life I can't describe it. I've had cockers and love them....but would now only get another yorkie if ever looking for another puppy one day. They're THAT awesome |

| I had 2 maltese before I decided to try the yorkie breed. Both of my maltese were very much lap dogs. They seemed a lot calmer than the yorkie, however, I have heard from others that their Maltese was more hyper. In my opinion, it is how you raise them. Copper, on the other hand is very active....I wouldn't say hyper....just active. He hardly ever barks....again, all are different. I don't know about the mixes....oh, Copper happens to be a chocolate yorkie, which means that he has a different coloring due to double recessive genes being passed down from the parents....he lacks the dark pigment. This is the reason for the brown coloring and liver colored nose and amber eyes with no black rim. I was hesitant as you are about health issues...especially since he turned out to be chocolate. I did all kinds of research and talked with vets, as well as some of the people here on YT...before I decided to buy him. He has been a litttle hard to potty train, however, at almost 8 months, seems to have it all under control. My trainer says that with small breeds it can sometimes be 2 years before they are totally housetrained...depends on the dog. I would highly recommend a trainer. Yorkies can be stubborn and want their on way, but they have a heart beyond all...I have had a terrible year....lost my father in January, mother in law 2 weeks later...2 uncles...put down my 16 year old maltese....my mother is now slowly dying of congestive heart failure among other illnesses...my son got a divorce and watching is suffering broke my heart...carpal tunnel surgery...Despite all this, Copper has adjusted to all these changes and has managed to learn sit, stay, place (where he stayes in his bed when commanded "place" until released) Back, when the front door is opened (we are still working on this) and come(this is a work in progress) He is not very got at coming yet. He is crate trained...sleeps there at night by my bedside. He has been my constant companion ( although he prefers my husband when he is home). He has been my THERAPY! I would have a hard time giving you many cons...Good luck on your decision...I think you will find that training is the key, and that your little furbaby will give back a thousand times what you give to him/her....I am looking at getting a second....female...not to breed...just a companion...and playmate for my little guy....My trainer said that it would be best to add a female instead of a male....just his opinion...How is this for a coffee break? Hope I haven't bored you to tears.

| Oh, one last thing, since I have found http://www.chrissystems.com/ shampoos and cond. and Ice on Ice...grooming has been a breeze...at first this was a real challenge...now the comb and brush just glide through....When I first started trying to comb Copper, It was almost impossibe to comb this little wiggle squirm...Definately give these products a try...you will not regret it.
