![]() I am a new Yorkie owner and learning so much from YorkieTalk. I am finally taking the plunge to making my first post. I have been bitten by the Yorkie "Bug" and already looking to get another Yorkie puppy. (My family thinks I'm nuts!) I want our 4.5 month old male "Tigger" to have a buddy to grow up and play with. We are gone for several hours during the day and I think having two dogs would help in keeping each other company. I really want a "girl" puppy this time. Some people say to wait at least a year or two until Tigger is completely trained and housetrained. Others say to raise them together while they are young. So many views... Need your advice....When is the best time to get second Yorkie? Is it better to have the puppies closer in age or a few years apart? Is it alot more work with two Yorkies? Will they entertain each other or will it be twice the attention needed for playtime? Any difference in raising a male and female vs two males? Any advice from the YorkieTalk members that have more than one Yorkie is truly appreciated. Thanks Much. TiggerBug ![]() ![]()

![]() Anyone who hasn't owned a Yorkie doesn't count as sound advice LOL ![]() What is your boy like? has he been around other dogs? Remember once you bring in another dog they start to act like a pack and can get envious of eachother. Remember you are the one who lives in your house and knows your pup the best, and yourself. Trust your instincts and know that you have time, it's not like your little guy is going to reach an age and not like other dogs just make sure he is socialized. Take him to dog parks, puppy class etc... Have fun! this is your life, your money, your home and time.... not your families! ![]()

| ![]() We've just recently got a second pup (Honey, a Golden Doodle) when Lucy (Yorkie) was 14 months old. There have been both pros and cons. Honey is still being housetrained, which has caused Lucy to regress a little bit with her housetraining. She was perfect, and had been for months - but now seems to feel that if Honey can pee on the wood floors, so can she. (Honey's improving, though, so Lucy will soon follow). On the other hand, Honey has very quickly picked up other training from Lucy - walking at heel, sitting, lying down, etc - all within 2 weeks! And they play together constantly - which means we have to spend less time entertaining them individually. Lucy can also walk miles - so Honey's need for longer walks hasn't been a problem at all. Oh - and both are girls, and get along really well, except for the occasional tussle for "me first" during cuddles time.

![]() i think it all depends on your life. if you want to potty train and teach commands to two at the same time and have enough patience to work them both together and seperatly to be good canine citizens then i say go for it...if you don't have the time and energy to put into them both equally and don't think you can handle two, then wait a little longer. good luck either way and i hope to hear from you and see pics of the new one if you decide to get her.... remember to get them both spayed and neutered so no ooooppppsss happens!! ![]()

![]() I appreciate everyone responding to my post. I am still trying to convince the Hubby that it would great to have two. Tigger is almost 6 months now and could use a buddy when we are gone during the day. I would love to have a girl puppy. Tigger is already neutered so that would not be a problem. Maybe I will bring it up again to the Hubby in the spring when outside potty training is a bit easier. Another Question: Does anyone have have separation anxiey issues with their yorkie? Did having a second Yorkie help with any of this? Just curious if anyone has experience with this. Sorry for the delay in responding back...THANKS AGAIN for your advice. TiggerBug ![]()
