Thanks for all the responses, it makes me feel better about my experiences. Personally I don't care, I love Abby anyway, but for some strange and perplexing reason it makes me feel bad for her, as if she cares! So far she is a very friendly, outgoing and happy dog. She is between 6.5-7.0 lbs. now (at 7 months). I was hoping she would be around 5 lbs. just because my husband is disabled and we are both getting older and I wanted a dog that would be small enough to bathe in the sink and pick up easily. I work and my husband is home all day. He was very attached to our previous dog (a rat terrier). When Peanut died he didn't want another house dog but I got Abby anyway (without telling him!) and now you would think it was all his idea. She is so much company for him. If she lives to be average YT age, she will probably be our last dog, unless I can talk him into getting a brother or sister for Abby!!! |
3 Attachment(s) My Mom has two yorkies one is just 3lbs the other is about 16lbs, they are brother and sister (not the same litter) no one believes us LOL. Plus Charlie gets all the attention (he's the bigger one). Charlie can play fetch until his legs fall off LOL he can also sit, shake a paw, dance, rollover, play dead, high five, play sleep, and ... PLAY the PIANO. He is so emotionally aware of everyone. He watches T.V. He captures everyone's heart!!! Jazz (the smaller) is sweet but very afraid of everything! I love them both!! Our whole society is based on what you look like ie. what your yorkie looks like and how much you paid for him/her. A Yorkies size has no baring on his heart and spirit.... That's why we all love them... am I right! |
I had someone post on my wall that my yorkie was a silky, and that I should read up the breed on the internet! :eek: People are just un-educated and i find if funny at times! |
i get snapped at by this lady at a pet boutique that i used to love shopping in until i met the owner and the worker there. they are so snooty and opinionated about EVERYTHING and she has those 2500 show yorkies which are beautiful, but they are super under socialized, they bark and bite at customers from behind her closed in counters, they have NEVER been outside, and they aren't very well behaved at all. i think some people need to stick their nose back into their own business long enough to realize their precious little "perfect" pooches are way worse off than my little girl who isn't as expensive or a show yorkie!! my girl could dance circles around her dogs in behavioral contests and she gets to romp outside and learn to play nicely with other people and dogs. anyways yes i understand that yorkie owner snappyness! have had it happen all the time. they also have opinions about everything you feed or do for your dog, including their Opinions on how much she may grow to weigh. |
only having a 5 pound dog i have not had this happen since he was a puppy he was a big puppy the growth chart said over 8 pounds but when i would take him to the pet store people would tell me he had to be a mix i had one person tell me he was a cairn terrier i decided i wanted a big yorkie and i would be proud then i got a 5 pound prissy little thing and i was like great gatsby go with the stereo type but i love him anyway |
I think it's not so much the size of their dog, it's how much they paid for it that impresses themselves. I know some folks that the more they spend on everything, the better. Some folks will give me a 2-page blog about all they've been doing,places they've been,their son is the lead pilot in a U/M-Penn State game flyover in answer to my email question 'How you been?' It doesn't matter how big/small/expensive/cheap your dog is, it's the type of care that it gets and that's something that only you know. You only need to satisfy yourself with that. Your dog will love you for it. That's all that matters. |
