| Is My Yorkie Psycho He is on a barking rage right now running back and forth from one side of the yard to the other side barking loudly. This is after he finished humping his cushion. Maybe I am psycho for asking, but really I was wondering if any of your dogs have killed another animal, such as a mole~? After he did this the other night, his attitude changed after he got a taste of blood. He wanted more and I kept him away until I could find out what it was back there and get rid of it. This happened last summer too when he killed a rabbit. He ate the hind legs and butt before I could physically get him away. He's like has a wild rage after he gets a taste of blood. Have you all ever seen this happen with your dog~? Are all Yorkies like this~? Someone told me today that he is psycho and I should of traded him for a larger dog (someone was walking a Husky today and it was a extra large puppy and she told me she would trade with me. He was difficult to walk). Anyways, he still is barking loudly. |

| Omgosh the little guy must be super quick to catch a rabbit.. I dont know if the blood is making him act that way, I have never had that experience. My little guy will run around the yard barking away and I sometime think its the birds in the trees and he can hear the noise but not see them that gets him all riled up.. Sorry I cant be much help, Hopefully someone comes along that knows a little more about it.. I will say tho I know squirrles can carry Leptosperosis(sp) or Lepto, my Fred just got over a bout of this this last few weeks, normally its contracted thru urine of squirrels and raccoons and such. Im only mentioning it cuz if hes quick enough to catch a rabbit he could get somtehing that may carry that. THe first signs we had we that he seemed so sad and lethargic but after a few weeks (cuz we thought it was trama from fireworks making him act this way) he ended up in kidney failure and was very sic. Hes doing much better now, but just mentioing it so u know its out thier. |

| Vet check would be first on my list. Also, maybe booster his Rabies vaccine. Maybe switch him to a raw diet so he'll stop trying to get it outside? Or, keep him on leash.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | No, he's not psycho, he's an animal. If you really don't feel comfortable with him, I reccomend giving him to someone else (and NOT the woman with the husky. anyone who would trade their dog at the sight of another dog should NOT have pets). Yorkies were bred specifically to hunt and kill small pests. Some are more in tune with that than others. My dog doesn't usually go after animals, but many do. Your dog is just listening to his animal instincts.

| I'm Not Trading Apparently, everyone is misunderstanding me. I am not trading my guy in for another dog, let alone a large dog I definitely know that they were bred for hunting too |

| So I am assuming that you are making a statement and not looking for an answer to you post. Maybe you need to rephrase your original post since everyone here seems to be pretty confused.

| It never ceases to amaze me when people get a dog, any breed, not just a Yorkie and know nothing about it's history! To them a dog is a dog. It eats, sleeps, poops and barks. That's it. Well that's not it at all. Each breed has it's own type of behavior and in purchasing a breed you should know what your getting into. As far as a Yorkie goes if you read before you got him you would know they were bred to hunt small animals especially rat's. Over time that instint is still burried within their personality. It's natural for them to want to chase squirrels, rabbits, birds or whatever other small animal they spot outdoors. However, this does not make them blood thirsty vampires! If your dog did indeed catch a rabbit it did what came natural to it. Now you need to keep a watchful eye when it's outdoors and not allow him to do this again. Sounds to me like this dog needs some training on behavior issues. Much like a child that's allowed to roam free without any rules or regulations, chances are, it will certainly get into trouble because no one told it what was right and what was wrong. It takes time, lot's of time and patience to form your pet into a well behaved family member. Some more than other's. Looks like you have your homework cut out for you. P.S. I wouldn't even give the person who wanted to trade their dog for your's the time of day! I hope your not considering such a thing, because if your are your on the wrong site! Good luck to you in turning your pup into the pup it should be. t |
