| Hair not growing! I have a 7 month old male AKC registered yorkie. He's so healthy and playful. His hair is strange though. His beard and ear hair is growing normally, his head stays short and his back is only growing sparingly. Is he just young still? Poor breeding? I'm a wreck with worry. The vet says some yorkies just don't get long hair. I was worried he wasn't purebred. She says that's not the case. At 7 months old im thinking his hair should be full and growing. It's too thin. Any advice? Vitamins? I started feeding him Flint River Ranch Puppy food and I shampoo him with Pantene. I doubt the shampoo is the issue I've had Brady for only a month and a half and his coat hasn't changed like it should. |

| Your vet is right, some yorkies don't grow a long beautiful coat due to genetics. It could very well be poor breeding. Did you see his parents? Do they have long hair? |

| No, I never saw the parents. I'm not so sure about this breeder either but there's nothing I can do. I already love him. I do feel as if I've been mislead in some way but not sure there's anything I can do now. It's been over a month since the purchase. I'm learning a lot more about what to look for. |

| There is a genetic defect, I can't recall the name, where the gold hair grows normally, but the blue part stays short. If it's not important, you'll save on grooming visits! If it is important, contact the breeder, who I think would have been aware of this prior to the sale. My first Yorkie had this, and I've seen people have their dogs groomed to look this way.

| Thank you. The blue looks like two different types of hair. Some long and some short like velvet. I think this breeder is bad. I researched her but not until it was too late. She has so many different breeds and also cross breeds. The vet is sure Brady is purebred. And eveni if contact her i wouldn't know what to say. I'd never send him back to that. I just wish I knew what to do to help his hair grow. |

| This link may provide some info you may be looking for: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...rt-thread.html If your pup has a genetic defect, there is nothing you can do to make his hair grow. Hormone imbalances may also cause coat abnormalities, which can change again as the imbalance is corrected. Some changes occur between 6 & 9 months, and their full adult coat comes in anywhere from 3-5 years, depending, again, on genetics. Itching and scratching can damage a coat and cause temporary color changes, as new hairs grow in. Vaccines can cause coat damage as well. If I paid full price for a registered Yorkie and his coat was a problem, I would contact the breeder and ask for a partial refund, as the dog did not develop as promised ... if I have a signed contract in hand. Some Yorkies with thin coats as pups develop nice, full adult coats by the age of 3-5 years. It is too early in his development to assume anything. Feed him a good quality diet and hope for the best. Or, have genetic testing done on him to see if he's carrying any deformed genes and go from there ...

| I am curious, who is your breeder? I am from Irvine and may know him/her. Do you have pictures of your baby?

YT 500 Club Member | Rosie hair was relly thin at about 4-5 months, but she seams to have new layers growing in including her steel colouring now since she turned 7months. The hair on her head stays quite thin at the moment hopefully it will thicken up later. |
