| what type of xpen do you use? :I am getting a new baby girl soon and would like to find an xpen to use at least for the first few months. I did NOT use one with Cooper and he has only been trained to go potty outside and did very well, was trained pretty fast. But I think the xpen would be very helpful especially at night. I have been looking for one to buy in our area and all I can find is the octagon shaped ones, and they seem huge. I really want one that is rectangle in shape as it would take up less room. Where can I find a rectangle xpen? And how big should I get? (Cooper is over 2 yrs old and is 5.5 lbs so dont expect this new baby to get any larger than that). Have any of you used an actual baby play pen/or pack and play? My brother has 2 yorkies and they travel overnight ALOT with both of there's and they just bought a baby pack and play (rectangle baby play pen) and use a waterproof mattress pad to protect it and then make the bed on 1 end with food and water, and then use pee pads on the other. Just curious if anyone else has done that?

| Mine is a precision, I got it at Pets supply plus. I dont know how big it is you can make bigger or smaller by folding the panels. I got the tallest one I could get though because sometimes yorkies can jump or climb their way out of it

| Here is the one that I have: Amazon.com: 24H" x 24" 8 Panel GoGo Black Epoxy... It has a door so I can leave it open when I'm home if she wants to go in and take a nap. It is also very reasonably priced. I really like it. It folds easily and has a hook to hook it all together for easy travel. |

| The octagon is probably just the shape they put it in. Most of them can be shaped anyway you want them. They are made up of 8, 24 inch panels. Mine are made by Midwest Fencing |

| The xpen that we use is a Best Pet gold wire pen that is 30'' and has eight panels, they show them in most pics as an octagon but you can set it up however you please. Good luck, they are great! I love having it with our new pup!

| Midwest Pet Supply I have the Midwest Pet Supply 4' x 4' x 36" tall xpens and I love them. They are so easy to manuver and if you have jumpers then they can't jump or climb over them. Reasonably priced and comes from an Indiana company!!

| GoGo from digit pets These x pens are awesome... you can purchase the exact height you need and also tops if you have a climber... Also, they come with a "walk through" gate which allows you to walk in to clean, feed, etc.... We often have to "evacuate" thanks to hurricane season and these are so handy... They stack easily and can be transported....The black epoxy stays really clean and holds up well... Dog Exercise Pens, GoGo 8 & 10 Panel Walk Thru Door Exercise Pens - Digit Pet |

| Appreciate the great response and suggestions this was most helpful! I thought if the packaging showed the octogan shape that is how they stayed. Good to know you can mix it up/change them around.

| shape shifting... Actually, there is a small rod that slides out so the options are really endless... It can also be connected to other pens to create really large areas... so it is a pretty neat feature... |

| I think x-pens are great and I have used them for years. You do have to use some caution in selecting a x-pen. I feel the one posted by GurleyGirl in post 5 is the safest. Most of my dogs are not climbers or jumpers but every now and then I will get a pup that learns how to climb out of the wire x-pens and this can be dangerous. My Gracie is a climber and she can even climb out of the tall x-pens. Once she was climbing out of one and she hung her leg up in the wire. Luckily she did not break anything but she sprang her leg pretty bad. So which ever one you choose, just watch them closely and if you see a pup starting to climb out of a pen then it might be time to find a different type pen or put a lid on the x-pen. |

| I have the 8 panel 30" high one that I bought for indoors and then also bought two of the 10 panel 30' high ones which I put together for outdoors with screening on top so that my lil one can go outside through her doggie door and I don't have to worry about the crow/hawks/owls getting to her....I have been extremely happy with them....
