| Leg Joint Cracking Evenin', Our 14-week ~4lb Yorkie has a loose knee (back right side) according to a vet. We've noticed that we hear a cracking sound (like someone cracking their knuckles) in that knee when he runs around sometimes. The vet didn't seem to be concerned however we would like more opinions. It does not seem to affect his overall energy (he is very rambunctious) but I would like to know if that down the road it is more likely that complications will develop out of this condition or if it is more likely that he will grow out of it. |

| It is LP luxating patella. The vet didn't sound too concerned? That in itself sounds concerning! They have four grades of it. 1 is the least 4 is the worst. 4 needs surgery defintely, 3 is debatable. Uni has grade 3. We have her on glucosamine supplements which are helping a lot. it's called Cosequin. Many people here on YT use it with great results. Go to another vet and please have him diagnose what level your pup has. It is not something they outgrow. It is something they are born with.

| Here's a link of where I buy my Cosequin. Cosequin Regular Strength (90 capsules) I don't know if you can give it to pups that young though, ask your vet. Also you can search this forum "luxating patella" and you will get a wealth of information. Some members have had the surgery, some elected not to. Depending on what grade your pup has, you may want to limit jumping and stuff. Well you should limit jumping for yorkies anyway, but some of them you just can't stop them! LOL BTW Welcome to YT! What's your pup's name?

| Thank-you for the information. His name is Niko (picture attached @ 13 weeks). He is a very energetic guy who can already hop on the couch and there is no stopping him. Hopefully the frequency of the cracking/popping sound is not an indication of the condition's severity. |

| Oh what a cutey! Well yes they are all very energetic at that age, and sometimes forever. Most yorkies will still go crazy even if their kneecap pops out, which of course is not good. here is a link that describes the condition and breaks down the different grades. LUXATING PATELLA (KNEE CAP) I would suggest getting lots of those doggy steps and put them on the couches and beds.
