Im going to give in to Ace.... Well Ace is now 9 months old and he is the most finicky eater ever! We never tought him to eat table food and I have been standing my ground on having him eat the right food but he is soooo thin looking! He is barely over 4 lbs and I could have sworn I saw in like shaking (almost seizure like and it was just his leg) while he was resting. I feel like he is malnourished. He will definately eat what we are having especially chicken!!! IDK...what do you guys think! |

Once you start with table food it is really hard to get them off and it really isn't a balanced meal. I had that problem with Cali when she was little and fed her cesar's just to get her to eat until she was older. I found that California Natural canned lamb and rice usually appeals to picky eaters. |
There is a book called Cooking For Dogs by Marjorie Walsh. When you read what they can eat you realize it's just healthy eating that you can eat too. I see nothing wrong with small dogs eating people food if you give them the correct healthy items and balance that they need. It's cost effective, taste better, and he will probably be happier and healthier with it. A Yorkie is not a Wolf so raw meat is not good to me and the bacteria would cause for more illness. I believe that Yorkies and many other small breeds have become so domesticated and in need of human things for a quality life that good food should be put on the list, not just loving attention, clothing, and medications. |

Cheesy broccoli rice and shaghetti are not good for him at all and I am pretty sure should be in the classificatoin you have for things that would hurt him. Raw will almost definitely not hurt him, whereas the sodium alone in cheesy broccoli is scary. |

I give Timba some table food sometimes... few pieces of baked chicken, sometimes carrots, he even likes lettuce, some greenbeans, but most of the time I leave a bowl with hard food for him all day.... he only bothers us when we sit down to eat... but if we say no to table food he will go over and eat from his bowl of food.... |
Be carefull. My Gypsy used to be like that. I am feeding Acana and if I feel that she isn't eating enough, or if she is looking a little thin, I will boil some chicken and rice. I use that and the extra "broth" from it and mix it in with her food. |
We spoiled our first Yorkie Baby by feeding her at the table. Everytime we were eating she would stand on her hind legs and whine. We must eat pretty health though because she lived to be almost 16 years old. We vowed however, to not make the same mistake with Sophie. She eats her kibble from her bowl and lays quietly at our feet under the table while we eat. I do give her raw things like carrot while I'm cooking but nothing while we sit at the table. I've had the same problem with Oscar. He wasn't eating any dog food I would give him. He LOVED boiled chicken and white rice. I would shred the chicken in a food processor so it was easy to eat. It turns out that he has an allergy to chicken though so I know have him on Natural Balance duck and potato dry food whth some of the NB canned food mixed in. He loves it. I find that the canned food seems to make it more appetizing for him, so I mix the two. I try to feed him when we aren't eating because he will be more interested in our food than his even though we don't give him any of ours he'll stand there waiting. So if there is no human food around he'll eat his own food. Hope this helps. |
