Yorkie & Pitbull...Who said they can't get along?

Lol, the German Shepherd wasn't bothered by Jackson one bit. The GS actually wasn't even running -- Jackson was the only one running. If you look close, the GS is in fact looking at the other dog, not Jackson. But even if he was looking at Jackson, he's not looking at him in a threatening way, his tongue is out, tail is curled/up, ear is kinda floppy. He's not in a fight mode. And he was the calmest dog in the whole park. That other dog is also not a Pit Bull and I would never put Jackson in a life threatening or "red flag" situation. All the dogs in the dog park this day were extremely calm and friendly, there was hardly any running going on except for a few skirts, and the main dog Jackson played with the entire time was a little cockapoo.

I will always allow Jackson to interact, meet and play with larger dogs under my supervision. I'd prefer him not to be in a pack of 5+ larger dogs by himself, for the simple fact of size and 5 big dogs running around definitely could injure a little guy; but absolutely under my supervision and watchful eye, I think it's fine and shouldn't be judged for that. Dogs will be dogs, big or small. I think it's wonderful that I can trust Jackson around bigger dogs and that's he's not scared of them yet know how to act, he doesn't get in their faces, he doesn't annoy them or egg them on. If I had seen one sign of an aggressive dog, heard a growl towards Jackson or another dog, or had a rowdy obnoxious dog (big or small) we would have been gone.

People can say "It's not the dog,it's how it's raised."all they want but facts are facts.Pitbulls are violent unpredictable dogs that are bred for bloodlust.A Yorkie and a Pitbull togther will eventually end in heartache.I urge you to wise up before it's too late.

I didn't say I saw agression from any dog in your photo. I think I may be seeing Prey interest from the GSD, who looks like a young dog (still a pup? = floppy ear). My worry is that those expressions can be misinterpreted = problem. Email it to Cesar!

The only reason Michael Vicks' dogs were not destroyed was because the whole world was watching!!! The dogs were placed in homes where they would be the only pet, for obvious reasons.

Nice history lesson, but I was referring to the last 50 years. And I was not referring to the true aficionados of the breed, but the underworld gamblers and lowlifes who have overbred and inbred these dogs to their hearts' delight all in the interest of making money, having no clue as to what the standard is. If you believe the article saying it's a small percentage of the dogs in existence, I truly have my doubts. Why are the shelters, pounds, humane societies and rescue groups literally overflowing with these dogs? I have nothing against the true breed of APBT, they are magnificent, beautiful dogs. But there are too many BYB at least here in Baltimore that I wouldn't trust the temperment of any acquired in the entire state. It is a rampant problem here. Until you see a brand spanking new Jaquar pull up in front of the vet's office, the driver gets out, walks around to the trunk, opens it, and requests that we remove the dog from the trunk. Inside, we were hardput to find a spot of skin on this APBT that did not have a puncture wound within a half inch radius of the next. I don't know why she was still alive. That's when the realization hits you smack in the face, and it ain't pretty. She was a dump, the owner never came back. That happened 15 years ago.

I never said or implied that these dogs were bred legitimately for dog x dog fighting. Most larger breeds were originally bred for protection of home and family, farm animals, or hunting. But they are now. And I think the number is bigger than anyone wants to admit or believe.

pits can get along fine with any dog or person if they are raised properly just like people its all in your upbringing just like people and their opinions of them its how you and they are raised!

i have brought home pitts fatty the yorkie got along with them fine hubby has a problem with them because he thinks they are bad because they are pitts i disagree! anyways heres a pitt lily and bald fatty

Don't worry, there was no prey interest. I would make sure of it. Pictures can mean 4242142525 things and be interpreted in 2827272's of ways, but I was there, so no worries - everything was totally fine that day, nobody was stalking/hunting Jackson for prey for anything. I sincerely appreciate your concern and thinking of Jackson's well-being but I assure, that little boy is my life and he was not in dangers way.

I definitely agree with this.

As I said in an above post -- I would NOT own a Pit Bull. 1) I don't think they're that cute, they're not my style of dog, that's not to offend anyone 2) I'm not a strong minded enough owner to control such a powerful dog 3) I wouldn't want to deal with the stereotypes. 4) They tend to be hyper. I don't think they're bad dogs. Every Pit I've met has been a sweetheart to me and to my dog. I'm not necessarily defending Pit Bulls but I see so much bias against big dogs in general on this board and I think it's kind of unfair to assume they're going to kill our Yorkies or something. I think trust is very important with dogs, if you don't trust or respect them, they aren't going to do the same to you. My aunt used to own a Rottweiler who was an absolute sweetheart but my mom doesn't like dogs in general and was terrified of him. He could totally sense her energy and did growl at her once. Me - even as a young kid, I was so comfortable around that dog, he would give me kisses, and love me to death.

I have a pit mix and todayi'm going to pick up an american bulldog/pit mix..plus i have a lb and chi and yorkie..My 4 pound chi drops my big dogs..they are scared to death of him..he is the boss and they listen to him 100%..i will try to catch a pic of it sometime..
people need to educate themselves on pit bulls they will find that they are wonderful dogs...
the first pic is the girl i'm picking up today..she was to be pts and I couldn't bare for that to happen..the second is my pit/lab mix..she was dumped at my house in really bad shape..bobo i bought from a really good breeder..biskit i got from a friend of mine..i love that pi of him lol..

I think we all need to respect those that fear big dogs..people can't help what or who they are afraid of..my advice to those that are afraid..education is a powerful tool..

I am certainly not afraid of ANY dog. I am a pet sitter and take care of ALL kinds of dogs. I think all of us are just really in love with our little Yorkies and would never think of putting them in a dangerous position. The fact is.....Pits and other big dogs have killed little dogs! So, why take the chance.

This subject can be argued all day long. But just because we dont care for pits and dont want our babies around them, does not mean WE are afraid of them.

After personally witnessing several Pit Bull's go crazy, who ALL had wonderful owners, I will NEVER change my mind.

There is a reason they are fighters.
