| HELP!! Need to breed my babies!! Hi everyone. I'm new to this, I have 2 Yorkies both are 3. My female is 7 pounds and is in full heat. My male is 5 pounds, and a little shorter than her. He follows her around the house constantly whining. She is trying to mate with him and vice versa. Problem is, he's not reaching his destination ;(. Ive tried holding him/her. They have not got stuck together since he's about 4 inches away. Is there anything at all I can do to see that he achieves his goal. I want to breed them just once to have their babies, this is the second time this has happened. Please, any advice will be appreciated. Thanks! |

| First of all let me say welcome to Yorkie talk! You have come to the right place to learn about breeding yorkies. There are many people here with lots of experience ! Maybe you can get some good help! Have you ever had a litter of yorkies before? You may want to post your question in the breeding section. If you are not sure of what to do, I would say wait and do some more research. There are a million things you have to know to be a yorkie breeder. I would read the breeding section and start asking questions, and then when your fully prepared consider breeding, and get a mentor to help you through the whole process. (And have a big bank roll for all the tests, vet visits, and possible emergency c sections some bitches need!) Hope this helps! Last edited by sandyapk; 09-06-2009 at 05:08 PM. Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Hi and Welcome to YT. There is lots of good information in the Breeders Section. For right now, you are best to have another person holding the male while you hold the female. She may not be ready for him yeet. |

| Welcome to YT and hopefully you will reconsider especially if you only want one litter. If you will go to the breeding section you will learn a great deal about what is involved and also the possibility you could lose your little girl. Maybe I am misunderstanding your statement but I just don't want anything to happen to your little girl.

| welcome to YT. I agree with the others. if you are planning on being a serious breeder there are a lot of things involved. the first in start researching before you try to have your first litter. I researched almost two years before I ever even bought a yorkie. if you are planning on "having just one litter", then I would urge you to reconsider. This is not a good reason to put your little girls life at risk. I know she weighs 7lbs but I have almost lost 7 lb bitches in whelp. So size doesn't mean a whole lot in the scheme of things that can go wrong. Another point, I don't see it right now but I think I saw where she is three years old. Most breeders don't want a three year old dog having a first litter. Some do tho. hang around and you will learn a lot of things here. |

| I wouldn't be as concerned about the female (given that she's a good size) as I would the male. Are you ready for him to become a sex fanatic?? And start marking everything? The marking issue happened to us when we used our male toy poodle as a stud just one time. If you are determined for this mating to occur, I will tell you that our Dax had to stand on phone books to reach the female that he was bred to (she was just a few inches taller). It was quite the experience. Not one that I would want to repeat though if I owned the male. Good luck in your research.

| Thanks everyone, I will look into the breeding section. Yes sugarbear (male) has been marking, this is her 3rd heat where he is a sex fanatic. My mother has alot of experience in the breeding part, not with yorkies though. Yes, we have the money for emergencies and visits. I just can't believe they won't hook. Thanks for all your input. I appreciate it! |

Three years old is kind of old for a first litter.

| I dont want to be a breeder. I can't imagine giving my babies away to strangers. I want her to have one litter for me. I have the time and money to take care of them. Vet gave me the green light, but he's just too short, and he wont do anything while im around because ive tried phone books, etc. |

Some breeders will wait a bit longer than the usual first breeding time of 18 - 24 months.....The reason some wait is some girls are not mature enough.

You need to get some help in completing the breeding, heighth should not be a problem...if both are virgins that maybe.....In breeding virgins; you either want to breed a Seasoned female with a virgin male; or a virgin female with an experienced stud. With a male being a virgin, he may get frustrated.....not a good thing for him to get frustrated.....he does need a seasoned girl to show him the ropes and feed his ego. Lots more to breeding than just putting to dogs together.
