Hello and Welcome to YT! Hope all is going well and everyone's adjusting to their new family member! Please, remember that you have no idea what happen at his other home, and have patience with him. When I got Barley from a rescue at 1 to 1 1/2 yrs (don't know his true age) he was in horrible shape and any loud noise frightened him into hiding. It was enough to break your heart, but now he's doing wonderfully after only 7 months. If you need any advise or just want to share we are all here for you and love to talk yorkie!!! Thank you for rescuing this baby and giving him a loving family of his own!

He arrived safely Friday night. He was very skittish. It was quite a chore to get a leash on him to take him outside to "use the bathroom". Like Gennies said, I don't really know everything he's been through. I know his hair was cut short to get rid of all the matting. There are sores on his back. Hard to tell what type of injury caused that. I have some oatmeal soap for his skin. I'm giving him lots of patience. In the attached pics you can see that Friday night he slept at the foot of the bed curled in a ball. He is too cute.

He hasn't had any accidents in the house yet. This morning he scratched at the door to be let out. He still cowers when I reach for him. That may be due to his previous owner. But over time I think that will get better. Just have to teach the kids to be patient with him. They get to meet him for the first time on Monday.

The name so far is between Willie, Nelson, or Harley. I have to wait and see what the kids like I guess...

I found him through my girlfriend's mom who was the breeder's groomer. She said his hair was darker before the buzz cut. I thought she did a great job considering she had to get rid of almost all his hair.

Good looking pup. Try to get some history, be patient and kind to the little guy and he will reward you many times over. We have had several rescues and each day you learn a little more about what their previous life was like before you gave them a good forever home. Watch the sores and see the vet if they look like they are not healing properly. May want to keep his fur/hair short. It's cooler for him and easier for you to groom.

Awwwweeee! He's so handsome!!!! I could just love him up

Since he's not sleeping with you and his fur's so short you may want to invest in a few doggy pillows to give him a soft and warm spot to lay but be close to you! He's trusting you already if he's sleeping close to you like that! Great Job with him!!!

Also you mentioned he cowers when you reach for him, are you moving slowly and placing your hand palm side up so he can see there is nothing in your hand and he can smell is? This is the best way to approach a scarred dog and have your hand low, try not to stand over him, lower yourself down so you're less threatening to him. If you were to get down to his level and look up you will see how huge everything in his world looks and if he's been abused that's a very scary place. Doing things like offering him a little kibble in the middle of you hand and talking slow and sweet to him will help tons.

I hope it all goes well when he meets his siblings on Monday. Please, keep us posted and know we are here for you if we can help in anyway. ((((Hugs)))) for the rescue of Willie, or Nelson, or Harley. PS: I vote for Harley (have one ) and he looks like he needs a strong and confident sounding name.

Thanks for the advice. Not sure where I learned it, but I knew about holding my hand out for him to smell it and letting him come to me.

He's doing better already. He really took to my girlfriend, but she went home today. So its just me and him tonight. He follows me everywhere I go. Its quite cute.

Just occurred to me to ask today since it is his first day at home alone.

How often and when should I feed a 1 year old Yorkie who stays home alone by himself. I've heard that just leaving a bunch of food in their bowl is not a way to encourage good eating patterns. But I also don't want to put him under a bunch of stress while he's trying to "hold it" until I get home...

Should 6am and 6pm be good times. Then I can take him out for a "bathroom break" just before I leave for work at 7:30?

I'm inexperienced at having an inside dog, especially with him being at home all day by himself. I just want to make it as easy for him as possible without starving him or making him have to hold it a long time.

thanks.

Sorry, I wasn't on last night to see your post. I think those are great times to feed him. It good to have him on a schedule so that it decreases the risks of accidents in the house. How did your children like him? Did you all agree on a name?

The kids absolutely love him. They want to snuggle with him more. But my kids are 8 and 10, so they do understand that he's scared right now.

We can NOT agree on a name, lol. My daughter likes the name Skamp. And I have to admit he does resemble the cartoon son of Lady and the Tramp. I just don't care for the name. I kind of like giving them people names. It makes them feel more like family... Oh well. I think she can just be happy to have a dog. She's wanted one for 2.5 years. When I went through my divorce I gave my Jack Russell away because I couldn't imagine subjecting him to apartment life. This time I went with a smaller terrier breed so that he doesn't require as much exercise.

Now to just learn to wake myself up at 6:00am so that I can feed and walk him before work. I'm not a morning person, lol.

He is so cute. I always let my husband name my dogs so he has more buy in. Works every time. He does look like Scamp.

Well its been about 3 months. We finally settled on the name Cody. It wasn't really anyone's favorite, but nobody really objected to it either.

He's stopped cowering every time I reach to pet him. In fact, in the last month, he's become almost playful. He jumps and darts around. He thinks its fun when I try to touch his front feet.

His hair is growing back in pretty fast also. Its about time for the first trip to the groomers.

He's been to the vet. Unfortunately it wasn't the clean bill of health we were hoping for, but we're getting it all fixed. He had a UTI, a nasty one too. And he had some round worms. He got all his shots.

The UTI explains why he's been so hard to potty train. He's on a month long antibiotic regime. So we'll see how it goes after that.

Here are some new pics of him with longer hair. The lady downstairs made him a little jacket to wear when its cold (which isn't often here in South Georgia). The second picture is of him laying in my daughter's bed. He really misses her when she's at her Mom's house. He'll go lay in her bed and look sad. Its kind of cute.
