| So sorry you lost Zuzi, but she was lucky to see 15 yrs. Hopefully you have many many wonderful memories of her. My Yorkie Tiki is not much of a barker, just a little yap to announce when somebody is at the door, then quiets quickly. Good luck with finding a new doggy.

| Hi...sorry for your loss of Zuzi...I lost my Sammie this year and he was nearly 15...he barked quite a lot until the latter year when he went deaf. As for Dustie..now 6 months old..No he doesn't bark much at all...only when startled...or someone comes to the Door...He has a funny little squeal noise when playing..but again no real barking. We have just been away with him and some people didn't even know we had a yorkie..because he was so quiet...lets hope it stays that way. ![]() Chris x

| Thank you all for your input and your kind thoughts. I do think it really depends on the dog and its energy. Now my quest is to find a "laid back" dog. No rush though because I still have my 2 Labradoodles who are wonderful dogs. I was away for the weekend and when I came home it was weird not having Zuzi there. I saw one of the dog's stuffed animals and for a moment I thought it was Zuzi. We did backpack past the place we threw Zuzi's ashes this past weekend. It is in a beautiful place in the Adirondack Mountains where she liked to hike. I miss the little fur face. Shelley |

| I have had two yorkies. My first beloved baby Stormy was not a barker at all! She was very laid back and calm. She would only bark if someone knocked on the door. She never whined or growled either. My new baby Lola, is a barker! She is extremely friendly and hyper and will bark at almost anything. She is 10 months old. Stormy was 1.5 years old when I got her. It depends on the dog and the energy for sure! My mom has a year old yorkie who is a big barker too. If you aren't picky about a certain age I'd recommend getting a yorkie who is a little older, around 1 year old so you will know for sure if they are a barker or not. So sorry to hear about your baby. |

| Laci is not really a barker at all, she will bark at a odd noise but thats about it.. her bark is sort of muffled, but like someone said, its all in how they are raised my house is not quite, my daughter is constantly going in and out of the door for something or another.. I have alot of company so again she is use to strangers comming and going....I am very thankful she is not a barker because my girlfriend has a yorkie and he never ever stops barking but she lives in the heart of the city and there are weird noises all day long!

| I agree, it is how you raise them. We have four and the oldest barks once to get two out of the three going. Our four year old rarely barks. When he first started barking, we thought he was hurt! They give so much love, I don't mind the barking!! |

| Kimbo barks when he gets really excited while chasing my kids, and also when he hops up in a laundry basket and is scared to jump down. He has just started to bark when he wants me to pick him up, but I don't like it. If I know he wants me to pick him up, I make him sit and stay for a while. Then I silently put my hands out to pick him up. He's doing better, and has even tried changing his bark to sound more muffled and quiet. Mama still doesnt like demands, so we'll keep working at it. I like the NO BARK command and haven't ever used it. I'll try it this week. |

| Genghis is a barker. He's almost 11 months old and loves to run and bark. He barks at the doorbell, barks a other dogs playing with his toys, at other dogs that I am holding, at dh if we are hugging, at least he used to. We've been working on it and he gotten better, but there is still a long way to go. I've noticed that if I'm mad at someone he will bark a ton! And not stop, and even growl. If he was a little bigger he'd be a great debt collectors dog. He also barks and jumps at a bag of treats if we leave them on the table. The funny part is I think he knows when it is tolerable to bark, as I have him with me when I work either in an office or at home and he's doesn't bark during that time unless the doorbell rings. |

| oddest thing, my girls are 4mths old, and they are in their xpen when I get home from work. They go nuts with the barking. They bark alot. Sooo, I'm thinking I have horrible barkers. Well, dh, took the boys to the clubhouse this weekend...I came home from work as usual and when I walked in, dead silence... I call out..'mommys home'...dead silence.. almost scary... I walk into their line of sight and their they sit, pretty as a picture just looking at me, waiting. Silent as little stones. Evidently, the big dogs communicate the excitement and they pick up on that. I guess that means I don't know if they are barkers or not. Well, that was a waste of a post....LOL When they do bark, I absolutely refuse to have anything to do with them. They get no attention, pickup, treats or anything, unless they are being calm and quiet. I don't want to reinforce unwanted behavior.
