Breeder selling 5 wk old pups for $500 yorkie puppy rescue? Hey you guys, I know I don't type on here much but I'm vacationing in Illinois. My sister wanted her own yorkie so we looked in the paper to find someone selling them for $500. We went there to check it out and they were only 5 weeks old. I felt so bad for them because they were greesy and stinky. I almost wanted to buy all of them just so that I can wash them and make sure they go to proper homes. I wouldn't even let my nephew touch the puppies. The puppies are not drinking on their own and she gives them watered down puppy food. but she is selling them anyways. I feel so bad for leaving them behind but does buying all of them condone this behavior? I feel like if I don't buy them someone else sure will and she obviously doesn't care about what homes they go to. I saw the mother, I could tell they cut her hair. She didn't give her puppies shots and worm them. I guess the question is should I buy them and rescue them? I'd need to find them all new homes and I know no one loves yorkies more than the people on this website. I might be able to post pics later. I just can't stop thinking about that puppy's brothers when I look at her. They were all in a box lined with newspaper pooping all over themselves. I am from California so I could send a couple of them I guess, but only after they are 8 weeks old. I'd rather get them to Illinois people. My sister is from her but she's due with a baby any time soon. This is driving me crazy, what should I do? |
If you can I will rescued them. This is a tough question. Instead of buying them, myabe is best contacting the SPCA or Humane Society. If the pups are in bad shape they will remove them and lfind them good homes. I feel so bad for this pup. Buying them is giving this lady what she is looking for, money;imho. Please let us know what happens with the pups. By the way, Congrats in the soon to be born baby. |
re: puppy My sister is a part of the humane society. We did not go in the lady's house, just the front porch. She's not sure how much it qualifies as animal abuse or cruelty. Maybe just uneducated? We told her that the puppies should stay there longer but she said "they're eating me out of house and home." So the bad things she has done is not bathe them(they were greasey), give them away way too young(5 weeks), and not give them shots/worming. I was thinking I could adopt them all for the $500 and bath them, bottle feed and get them started on water and keep them for 4 more weeks (puppies should be good to go at 9 weeks)and give them shots/wormed and taken to the vet then find them new homes later if anyone on this site wants to adopt them. This lady doesn't even have contracts or a receipt book but they are AKC. It would be better if she would do all this, but I could tell they don't have money and wouldn't hear me. She even kept saying "It says here on the paperwork to mark whether you breed her or not, but I don't see why it's anyone's buisness." Well lady it is a big deal ever heard of a spade/n contract? |
re: puppy Here is what the humane soceity's website says about animal cruelty. Are there any breeders out there with any advise? What do you do about breeders who don't care about their puppies? The lady is asking $500 cash only in Illinois. I will get the puppy I rescued vet checked. If anyone wants to rescue her 3 brothers in Springfield, IL. Also, if anyone knows if this is something to call SPCA on, let me know. http://www.hsus.org/hsus_field/first...l_cruelty.html Animal cruelty encompasses a range of behaviors harmful to animals, from neglect to malicious killing. Most cruelty investigated by humane officers is unintentional neglect that can be resolved through education. Intentional cruelty, or abuse, is knowingly depriving an animal of food, water, shelter, socialization, or veterinary care or maliciously torturing, maiming, mutilating, or killing an animal. |
This is breaking my heart... If I were that position, I would try and scrape up the money to buy them all, I would care for them as needed and then when they are old enough and well enough, I would resell them, only asking the amount of money invested in their well beings (no profit). But, that's only what I would do, I am not forcing my opinions on you. Good Luck! and God Bless! |
Where are they in Illinois? |
I think she said they were in Springfield. |
This is terrible! What I would like to know is how are they "eating her out of house and home"? I thought at 5weeks old they should still be eating from their mother?? Did you see the mother when you were there?? Someone needs to do something for the poor little things, that just breaks my heart. :( |
I found the ad online in the Springfield paper and called. The woman's son said there were 3 left. He didn't know anything else about them, but said the mother would be home later on today. How can those poor 5 week old babies survive without their mother? Do y'all think we should call the ASPCA or Humane Society? |
This is a horrifying example of backyard breeding at it's worst. If there is any way to get them to me I will buy them all and keep them until 12 weeks and release them with spay/neuter only to pet homes for the same price paid. I cannot drive to Illinois, but will make whatever arrangements possible to help if you contact me. Will she release the breeding dogs also for $? This makes me sick. After this is resolved, I hope you post the name of this....person, so others will steer clear. I don't know if this enough of an abuse issue to warrant the involvemnt of authorities, would that it were. |

How awful to subject our little yorkies to that sort of mistreatment! I hope someone can rescue them from their fate. |
Poor babies!!!! :littleang :littleang :littleang Do what your heart tells you. One problem is, are they healthy? Especially if they are treated like that. You don't want to bring any diseases into your home. 1st think about your animals, then your heart. I place my pups at 9 - 10 weeks. I also have them wormed and start their shots. They also have to be eating on their own. My pups are always clean, that is so sad  Good luck, You seem to have a big Heart  And a big decision. |
Sylvan, That is so nice of you. :luvu: You too have a big Heart  It's so nice to hear that their a people out there who cares. Keep us posted on this |
re: puppy I'm taking the female I rescued to the vet today I'll keep you posted on what he says. I got her to drink water by herself this morning. She has 3 males left, I saw the mother and she said the father got hit by a car. I don't think I can post the pics because I forgot my digital camera cord and my sister's is different. I leave back for California tomorrow, and of course you can't ship puppies that young. My sister would take the puppies in but she is due with a baby anytime and my parents can't take care of more than 1. I think you found the right ad, she lives on West Edward's street, which is in the ghetto. |
I might be able to give you some money. She ONLY accepts cash which is hard for me to come up with since my bank isn't here and ATMs only let you take out $400.00. Please take pictures of the puppies in the box. I forgot to, I only took pics of the mother and one of them. I think a good breeder would have at least a cage or a seperate area for them, not a box lined in newspaper. I think that she took the mother away from them so the would start "eating on their own." But they're not. She admitted that they're only eatting soaked dogfood and not drinking on their own. |
This is so sad. I hope they all get rescued and find loving homes. |
re: puppy I just looked at the AKC paper, her name is Ruth Boggs. She didn't even fill out the new owner's info, she wanted me to. She obviously doesn't care what happens to the puppy, with the paperwork blank it could be resold. |
Can you sell a puppy at 5 weeks old? I know some states regulate that a puppy must be at least 6 weeks old before leaving. You may want to look into that... |
You ladies are AWESOME !! This is just beautiful to read and good luck in helping those poor babies ...what big hearts you have ! |
That is just terrible :( How in the world can five week old puppies who eat watered down dog food eat you out of house and home  :thumbdown  She obviously doesn't care about the well being of these little helpless babies and to separate them from their mother at 5 weeks of age is just absurd! And the father got his by a car! I hope you all are able to work something out and get them all. Surely to goodness she isn't a breeder  What a sad story :( |
re: puppy The vet said she didn't know, but usually they wait until at least 6 weeks so they'd get their first shots. My sister said that Illinois has no law, it's up to the breeder, but good breeders usually keep them up to 9 weeks, but since yorkies are such a little pup, I wouldn't let them go for less than 10 weeks. |
I know what I am going to say is going to be VERY unpopular, but, in giving the money to this BYB and taking these undernourished, abused pups from her aren't you rewarding her behaviour? She makes 500.00 a pup, with very little effort on her part, that is alot of money for someone who thinks puppies are eating her out of house and home. So now what, no more puppies, breed her female yet again, ignore the puppies, abuse them, sell them again for 500.00 more dollars each... more money in her pocket. She has quite a game going. Now if she were "stuck" with the puppies, maybe she would turn them over to the shelter or rescue and get out of the game. All you are doing is paying her money to go out and breed again. The cycle needs to stop somewhere. Please understand, I admire your caring for these pups, you have big, generous , loving hearts, exactly what this monster is preying on. Don't we advise people to walk away from puppy mill pups and pet store pups to help stop the cycle? |
But for $500 a pup she will eventually find them homes regardless who the buyer is. Isn't it better that these pups are rescued by someone who cares and knows what these babies need UNTIL they are old enough to go to their forever homes. Someone off the street not knowing any better will just see a tiny pup and not think of the dangers that these babies are facing at such a young age. And someone did mention about trying to buy the Mama dog also to stop the cycle. I wish I was able to help these babies. I commend all those on here who have such huge hearts and caring souls. As always, I am grateful to be a part of this forum due in large part to its wonderful members  |
I totally agree with 'Velobabe' |
I can see where 3puppies4me AND velobabe are coming from. I mean, we are trying to stop puppymills right? But if this litter was just an accident, maybe it is best to rescue the babies from an unknown fate. I would feel a lot better about the situation if the mom was rescued too, just to make sure. But I am very glad people are trying to rescue them, for that price someone WILL buy them, maybe it's best if someone does interfer and rescue them, not just buy a cute little puppy. (of course they are adorable, but by rescue i mean that they know what is in store and what is best for the puppies) |
I still think this is consider neglect. I think calling the SPCA will teach this woman or at least they will have her on record. Im happy that you rescued a pup and I wish I had some money to help you in rescuing the others. But like 3puppies4me said this woman is getting the money and she didnt even care properly for the puppies. Sylvan, you are so kind. I really hope this poor pups get rescue soon. |
re: puppies I agree with velo also that people will buy up these dogs and might not give them the vet treatment they need. This puppy bearly has any teeth. I don't think this litter was an accident, they're AKC registered, but the father has died and she says that she doesn't feel like replacing him yet. She also has a 3lb female, I told her that she is too small to breed and she agreed with me and said she is 5 years and will not breed her. But she did have big and swollen nipples. She said she had put a deposit down on her and the breeder changed her mind until she threatened to call the police on her. I wish she never would have sold her. |
