Unfortunately in Illinois there is no law, it's completely up to the breeder. The vet today said that BYBs like to get rid of the puppies at 5 weeks because they are just starting to eat on their own and the mother stops cleaning up the messes. I'm sure money is a big factor in it too.
I wish state laws were more strict. Like I said, breeders should give first shots, worm them, and not let them go less than 8 weeks old. Maybe even s/n contracts.

Ok, I dont get on YT for one day and LOOK WHAT HAPPENS!

Cheryl and Elizabeth, and everyone giving $ or offering up good homes, you guys are all wonderfully caring, sweet, amazing people! I wish I could help, but I dont know anyone looking for a yorkie to love right this second.

I'd be willing to pitch in with whispersmom2 to purchase the mother dog as well if the lady would let her go. Maybe if everyone pitched in we could buy her and someone here could take her. After seeing what Bitsy went through with just one pregnancy, my heart just breaks for that momma dog :(

I doubt very much she will sell her ,,look how much money she just made off of her. BUT, what happens in a few months when she finds a male and breeds her again, and we go through this all again with another litter! CAUSE I'm sure she will do it again, and she'll get rid of the pups at 4 weeks,, She needs to be stopped, all her animals need to be taken away! The cycle wont end. :mad:

I know Rhonda. As I said previously, I feel bad for giving her money. I just could not leave them there in that filth. I feel like I supported a BYB, and I guess I did, but if you had seen these little fellas in that box with pee and poop all in it, you probably would've done the same thing. I wanted to ask her about selling the mother dog, but I was kind of afraid too. If anyone wants to call her about buying the mother dog, I have her number. E.

Oh I totally understand what and why, you did what you did. I know I would have done the same. It just KILLS me that she is gonna put that poor momma through it again! And even if someone get the momma, she'll get another and start all over. I wish the authorities cared about these poor animals,, I know they are not being Abused,, like beat and tortured, but this is ABUSE, she is a puppymill, but in a smaller version, but worse cause she takes the pups away too early, and the mother is there, I dont get it?! I wish, she would NEVER be allowed to own an animal, that would be the best outcome to this story. Elizabeth, I applaud you for acting so quickly and handling the matter! You saved those poor pups. And we all thank you for that. Now the authorities need to save the momma, and anyother dogs she WILL get.

Just an idea...since your puppy has to stay in Illinios with your parents for another few weeks, maybe she could go stay with her litter mates at Elizabath's. I just say this because it was mentioned that the puppies that are separated at too young of an age may have issues and since they are close that may (or may not) work out! Just a thought!

That would be cool to let her be with her littermates, but I live an hour in the other direction, west of springfield, so that makes me about 4 hours away from Elizabeth. But before his huge ordeal I had put a deposit on a little girl from a REPRITABLE breeder my vet recommended in town. Coincedently they were both born on the same day Aug 18th. But since this one is a good mommy she isn't letting her little girl go until about OCT 3rd after she's gotten her shots and wormed and she's eating well. So baby girl is going to have a sister to play with soon. Unfortunately the good breeder didn't want to get involved because she didn't want to jeopardize the health of her puppies.
Today there was blood in baby girl's stool. I will have to call the vet :o( hope she'll be fine.

Oh how fun that she will have a sister! You are going to have your hands full with two little babies! :p They will be so worth it though.

I wish I could have two more!!! :( You are so wonderful for doing this. Those babies are very lucky! I think it will be a really good idea to have a playmate for the puppy, as 5 weeks is way too early for proper socialization to have taken place.

And the blood in the stool is possibly Coccidia. Keep her drinking a lot of water and get her to the vet and on antibiotics. You're a wonderful yorkie mom!!!! :D

I called the vet, she said to wait it out for 24 hours and as long as she's not lethargic she'll be okay she's actually much happier than the first day. I hadn't really planned to get two, I already have a 5 month old pug at home. I came here and put the deposit down on the first one. When I found out about this BYB "getting rid" of her puppies so early and with no proper vet care I had to save at least one. If she doesn't care about her puppies there's a good chance she'll give them to other people who don't care. But I think everything worked out well. They'll have each other to keep company and Bailey will be happy too.
I just need to pick out names. We have this thing (I don't even know how it started) to name the pets after alcoholic beverages. The Himalayan cat is named Mai Tai. The aldabran tortoise is named Kalua. The pug is named Bailey. Trust me, we're not alcoholics, we just sound like we are! But I want this puppy's name to reflect what it's already been through at such a young age. I'm open to any suggestions!

That's cute. My cousin has two dogs named Barley & Hops not sure if that's with 1 p or 2. They are also both males don't know if that would work on girls. Good Luck. Also know a gentlemen that named his doxy Schnappes.

Edit: also...Mudslide, Cosmo (for the drink and the Seinfeld char...though I think the later is spelled differently). Good luck with names! Also, I think it would be cool to be 'Here little Wallbanger, here boy!(or girl)'

I couldn't have left them in that box either Elizabeth if it was in my ability to do something...I don't care what the circumstances were. I wonder if this lady was telling the truth about the male being hit by a car. How are things going with the pups today??? I bet wittle wexy don't know what to think about the whole thing :) I'd love to see a picture of the mommy dog. I wish at least the authorities would take her and find her a home. Pure bred dogs go fast at the animal shelters, or better yet, a yorkie rescue but I don't know how all that works.

And we have two YT Angles who really
steped up to the plate to save these little pups.
I have the phone number for the
Sangamon County Animal Control.
The more people who call, the faster
they look in to things going on.
Not sure what they can do, now that
the puppies are gone. But I'm sure they will
at least check on the mom.
Oh yea, my question, sorry this story just upsets me.
Can we get pictures, and send this story to the AKC?

That's a very good idea. I would not have thought of it. I think that it needs to be done.

I didn't get a picture! Sorry! I will call the Animal Control though. We have a dogtor appt. at 3:00 I'm going to get them checked for coccidia too since the baby girl may have it. They have runny stools, but I think that is due to me changing their diet. I'll see what the dogtor says. E.

Wow!!! What a story...it took forever to read and I'm glad these pups have been rescued. Ladies, you did a great thing and we all love and respect you for it. Those pups are darling. Elizabeth, let us know what the vet says and I'm wishing those pups lots of happiness and good health!

I'm very glad the puppies were saved...the story is so horrible, I just keep reading the details over and over and the more I think about it I just feel sick to my stomach. I really hope that you guys take action against this 'breeder' and I really hope she gets put behind bars or some such thing.

If you guys find that you cannot care for one of the little girls I'd be willing to drive up from Florida to get her. I have owned Yorkies for the past 6 years and have assisted my aunt (a breeder) with several litters, just so you know I'm not some off the wall person trying to take in a dog I don't know how to care for. I cannot take a male due to already having little Bender, and I just got him 100% housetrained a couple months ago...if he started marking again due to competition I'd cry a river. Anyway, good luck with your new bundles! I hope they grow up well!

I called The Sangamon County Animal Control
They are sending someone out this morning to
check on the Mom.
I also called AKC They too are going to
investigate. They are aslo going to log on
to this site to check this story out.
Both have my home address & phone number.
So I will get a report on what happens.
I just hope they are able to help before
another litter of pups.
This person needs to be stopped!
I wonder what yorkie rescue can do????

Good job! I was glad the pups were adopted but it seemed like something needed to be done so it just didnt happen again. I hope the pups are healthy. They are in a better place.
