I disagree, Nutrical stimulates appetite. It's not uncommon when a pup goes to a new home not to eat normally for a day or two, sometimes a few days. A 9 oz. pup will not eat much anyway, a quarter teaspoon may be all he needs at a time. Yorkies often tend to be "nibblers". So, it may be that he's eating, but he just doesn't need much.

If he really isn't eating, the all-meat turkey or chicken baby foods are easy on their tummies, and they will generally lick it off a spoon. If not, you just feed them a bit from a teaspoon every few hours, and generally, they will soon be eating it on their own. I would continue with the Nutrical every few hours as well. He may get used to eating the baby food and not want the dry food, but if he's only 9 ounces, I would worry about that later. Many breeders won't even let a pup go to a new home until it's 2 lbs. Well, I'm glad to know about the quarter teaspoon at a time. He has only been eating one or two grains of the Eukanuba once or twice a day. Last night, wehn I wet it he ate about a teaspoon. I knoew he was hungry because he esxaped to the kitchen where I feed my other two babies and ate two or three pieces of their "Little Bites" I watched him carefully. He got one piece stuck and I whacked him (gently) on the side of his belly near his ribcage and it popped out. I won't let him do that anymore but I felt sorry for him because to me that was indicator that he was hungry. This morning he ate a little cottage cheese that has a few pieces of the wet dogfood mixed in it. he seems to love it. Plus he has had his morning Nutrical as well. My vet also said it is a stimulator. My hubby, who is a breeder, also said it is a stimulator and hypes them up. Ceeby didn't sleep well last night and my hubby said it was because of the nutrical. He generally goes to sleep for about four hours around nine or nine thirty. We had to wake him up last night to give him the nutrical because of the hypoglycemia threat thru the night and he never went back to sleep for more than a few minutes at a time. I slept on the couch with him until three a.m. then I had to get up and help hubby transport a dog to the airport to fly out. he has had a couple of good naps since then tho.

teaspoon was normal for his size and age and he had done that a couple of times plus A few bites extra. I have made sure he had something every four hours and he has had his Nutracal twice and will have it again at bedtime. Thanks for all your suggestions.

My thoughts are a little different and honestly I'm not an expert but for what it is worth....When I got Chloe she mostly played with her food, literally. She would throw it around and then eat a small puppy sized bit of food. She wasn't as small as yours but I was so enthralled, I gave her a lot of variety and when she stopped eating my breeder told me to stop giving her so many options. For a puppy that isn't eating, boiled chicken and white rice usually will help. I believe Nutrical has Karo syrup in it, maybe even the first ingredient, so I don't think Karo plus the Nutrical is necessarily needed. I do agree you need to be sure food and water are available 24/7, as well as Nutrical, but check the label. Sometimes doggie bowls seem to intimidate my little one, who is 3 lbs full grown, so I will put a little food on the carpet and keep adding to it when she eats, telling her she's a good girl, etc., while I'm down on her level coaching. I don't think it is the sole indicator but check his gums often, make sure they are pink and give Nutrical if they are not. Lacey and Chloe got hypoglycemic when they were small but it was easy for me to tell, their gums were white and they were lethargic. Good luck.

he was eight weeks last Thursday, the day I got him and he ate well the first couple of days. he weighs nine ounces.

Thank you so much. I put fresh food down this morning for huim and he seems to keep going back to his dry food so far.
