Sometimes animals will go in a different spot than usual if they have a UTI. The reason for it is that they associate the preferred "potty area" with pain....so they start going other places. Could he have an infection?

Wow! I thought it was just that they couldn't hold it when they had a UTI. That makes a lot of sense though.

When Rory had a UTI, she peed in the backseat of the car, which was really NOT like her at all. Maybe you should take Teddy to the vet just to make sure he doesn't have a UTI, though that wouldn't really explain the poop.

Didn't you just get a bird for a new pet? Maybe Teddy is just acting out peeing and pooping on your bed to get attention. I think it's working because he definately has your attention.

argh i know how you feel...Ting Ting is beginning to do that here in Chicago....and i don't know why...she waits until i leave the room...i think she is mad that i have took away her free run of my cousin house because she was relapsing on her potty training....so now she only has free run in the current room i am staying in at my cousin house and i would go to sit on my bed after leaving for a while and either see poop or sit on her pee! this is beyond frustrated and my cousin already are not fans of dogs and she is not making the situation any better...i am thinking i should go get a crate or playpen to put her in while i am here!

so your saying teddy poops on your bed when your not home?? dont let him in your room unless your home?? and for my Bailey she goes on her pee pads and she has steps to go up and down as she please during the night to go potty. Also does teddy sleep in your bed at night?? If not then to him it is not a bed so he doesnt know the difference from that to a carpet??

I would take him to the vet first to rule out any medical cause, especially if this is new behavior. If all checks out, you might consider having him neutered

Yes i did but i dont think thats why.....because the bird is going to be 6 weeks old now and ive had him since he was 2 weeks and teddy only started doing this since about last week. I forgot to mention...it may be this but i did have puppy gates in my room for a while and just recently removed them. Do you think that could be why? He did his business in the gates about 75% of the time but he would still ocasionally mark around the house...they were taking up too much room so i got rid of them

Could be..but i dont think he does cause he did have it at one point..several months ago and his pee was red..we took care of that with medicine..his pee looks normal to me, and also it's more a poop problem than peeing i think..today he didnt do it tho, he did it on the floor

Not on the paper but now that is like 50% of the time anyway

lol yes i know it sounds stupid cause I let him in my room but the thing is i live in a 2 bedroom apt, so i have my room, my mom sleeps in the other room and then there's the living room. I left him in the living room today cause my mom was working but usually i cannot do that cause he marks and pees in the kitchen, near the couch, everywhere then my mom gets mad, so my bedroom is the only option really. Yes he sleeps in my bed at night..he jumps on and off as he wants, my other dog also sleeps in the bed with me.

When left alone they have to be in a crate and also at night. Once they are potty trained(meaning they can show you they want outside(either standing at the door or barking at the door or ringing a bell at the door) and consistently go in their potty place) then give him a bit more freedom.

If they have more accidents then back to the crate training. Record pee times so you can look back and see if peeing is really becoming more frequent or you are forgetting to take him out. Or maybe he is peeing more and has an infection. Recording all potty and feed times, nap times on a chart is so valuable I find. Give treats always for good pottys outside in their potty place. Also, really consider getting rid of the indoor pottying on pads. Most dogs I think, need a bigger separation of where it is ok and not ok to "go". We are using a small fenced off area in the yard and even if our dog pees outside of this area, we correct her by placing her back in this area. Eventually she will see that this area is her "toilet" and no where else.

Our puppy is 16 weeks and runs and sits at the back door (even in the middle of play) to go do her #2. She is regular with her #1's about 90% of the time. Pee takes longer to learn. I think they just can't feel it as well as a #2 coming!

Wow so much info, thanks so much!!!! Well here's the thing...i don't have a back yard, i live in nyc and peepads are the only thing i can do cause when it gets freezing cold in the winter i need them to know how to use the pads because its either too cold for me to walk them, and they dont like the cold. However i still do walk them, they do go outside as well, pee and poop, both of them. I just have the pads there as their 'main' potty area. So....a couple months ago i got these baby gates that go all around and make a section big enough for pads and their little chairs. It was there for a while, to get them better at going potty in that one section and it def. helped...they improved a lot but teddy would still pee ON the gates a lot of the times, and still would pee in the living room, on corners of things like the couch, table, things like that....in that case i guess he was 'marking'. He is not neutered so i figure thats why he does that and i accepted it after trying very hard to get him to go 100% on the pads and failing so i figured 80% of the time is better than none. So after having the gates there for a couple months i removed them, i did this about 2 weeks ago because i want to make more room in my bedroom and they were lent to me by my brother. I thought by now he knows that is the section to go, where the gate was, i still have the pads there but now he has done this and only pees 50% of the time there and poops about 25% of the time, so its gotten worse ever since i removed them. I cant have the gates there forever so im really stumped about what to do now...

sophie too went thru this, I think she was over a year old when she suddenly decided to start peeing on my bed. The doors to outside were open and we were in, she just used to take herself off and pee, just because she could !! we tried to ignore it a first ten we showed her the pee and said no etc etc, we never found out why nothing had changed as far as we were aware, i think she was trying to be dominant ?? she will be 2 in November and we hav nt had her do this for months just another phase ???
