Senior Yorkie Talker | He eats EVERYTHING Hi, Colt is now 12 1/2 weeks old and eats everything and I do mean everything. The other day my boyfriend caught him eating a small of piece of glass. (where he goit, i have no clue). We are having new carpet put in through out the house and I have to be careful because the guy leaves nails, carpet pieces, etc all over and Colt tries to seriously eat them. Last week I had to save him from a bubble bee. He tried to eat it at least 5 times (luckily he didn't get stung.) This morning as i took him outside to potty, he tried to eat a piece of duct tape he found on the ground and then he tried to chew a little rock. Needless to say, I do not let this little guy out of my sight. I have bought him puppy treat and several types of rawhide which he also loves. But how do I get him to stop eating EVERYTHING? Any suggestions would be grateful. He also has a lot puppy toys, more than most children. So, it's not that he doesn't have toys, he just chooses to play with the wrong things. Thanks!! | I would tell him "no" and replace whatever he's not suppose to have in his mouth with a toy. You need to be consistant with this.

| I agree with the other post, tell him "no" and keep up with it. He is a puppy and they love to chew, so they pick up everything.

| I know exactly how you feel! Maddie does the SAME thing. My apartment has never been so clean since I got her! haha...I don't even know where she gets half the stuff I pull out of her mouth! I am hoping this is just a "puppy phase". She is 3.5 months, so hopefully once those teeth fall out it will stop a little...let me know if you find something that really works, but the only thing that I have found that works is vacuum everyday! |

| I highly suggest an x-pen for when you can't watch him. He's just at that stage where he wants to chew and taste everything. Please do a search on rawhides here as well. Very dangerous for our babies Your baby is super darling, btw!!!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | This is what I did. 1. Inhale slowly to the count of 6. Exhale slowly to the count of 6. Repeat as needed. 2. Taught 'leave it' & 'drop it' command. Treat/praise each time. Your voice must mean business... no wimpy voice but no yelling. Be very watchful & consistant. Repeat every single time dog has something shouldn't have. 3. Try Bitter Apple or Bitter Yuck on household items that she chewed on. 4. Side tracked her with toy to get the item being chewed. 5. Once I was totally exhausted, start & repeat steps 1-5. Remember, he is still a baby & all this chewing is very normal... even for skin babies. This stage will pass as he gets his teething stage over. The first few months are the hardest. Teaching him some basic commands like sit, down, stand, etc will help keep his little brain busy. Be consistant & patience, patience, patience! Things will get better. Good luck!
