| how to tell if you yorkie.... is in heat,.. i have a female yorkie (Zoey)...she is 14 months,.. she hasn't had her period yet but i have noticed she is licking that area ALOT just wondering if that is a sign that she is going to get it?? any info would help alot thanks Nicole

| More than likely, especially at her age...did you get her after she was 6 or 7 months old? She may have already had one heat.... |

| Look at her genitals. Is she swollen? You can also dab with a klennex to see if there is any discharge. |

| i did look at her down there she is alittle swollen, and not i got her as a puppy,.. there is no bleeding though is that normal?? and how long does it last? etc ..... sorry i don't know much about this Nicole

My furkids Donating Member | There usually isn't any bleeding right away. They will usually become swollen and yes themselves alot. They are usually in heat for 3 weeks...that's 1 week coming in, 1 week in and 1 week going out. The bleeding usually starts on the second week and gradually will lighten up(in color). We do have some very good breeders on here that I'm sure will see this and answer any questions that you may have. If you think she's in heat I would be very careful around any males.
