| I think the vet gave me the wrong dog Kaji got neutered yesterday. The vet had me sign all sorts of paperwork, and finally brought out a puppy. It looks like Kaji, and at first acted like my boy, then the anesthesia wore off completely and it wasn't my boy!!! Kaji is the most mellow easy going dog. That is until he came back yesterday. It's been constant whinning and barking and wanting to do all the things he's not suppose to do. The corrections I used last week, and everything I was able to teach him has flown out the window. He is starting to get unbearable!!! The only break comes when he has tired himself out then it starts all over again. Are they all like this after a neuter? Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is there something I should be doing differently? Should I ignore his whinning? HELP!!!!

| Scooter rebeled a little when he came back from the "snip snip". He did not want to follow commands and tried to use those puppy dog eyes to get me to give in. Stay strong and he will remember....it may not be over night but the training will all come back.

| You just took his manhood away.. I would rebel too. I didn't have this problem with Brady but I am sure it is common.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Well, he's probably very sore, most dogs have setbacks in potty training at this time too. It takes several weeks for the hormones to be out of his system, so it's not hormone related. The effects of the anesthesia could also be disturbing him. I think it took about 4 days for Joey to act normal, but I think they are going to be very tender for at least one week. No jumping and no steps.

| I thought this wouldn't be a problem because Kaji doesn't jump, and he's super light so I can carry him up and down stairs. That is until last night when his evil twin took over and he was jumping out of my hands, jumping up in his ex-pen, and wanting to hump my roommate's dog. He even started howling. He wen't from not barking very much to howling!! I think he's calmed down a bit but I'm worried that he'll act up tomorrow. My wrist can't take much more.

| Stella got spayed on Tuesday and she's still acting like a rebellious teenager...she's definitely "taken a step back" in training this week too! Last week I had her reliably trained for sit, down, stay, speak, quiet, drop it, leave it, spin, play dead...and this week I might as well be speaking a foreign language to her. So the trainer will be disappointed tomorrow, but I think once she gets off the pain meds and settles down a bit she'll come around. Oh, and she had her first accident in over a month this morning (although I know it was NOT an accident, because she managed to spread parts of her #2 all over the living room!)--I was so mad at her! I'm sure they go back to "normal" eventually, I think the surgery just throws them off a bit. |

| I know Laci is a girl however when I got her spayed it took her a few days to come completely out of the anestehia ( sp) , she was not herself and I agree it worried me as well, but she is back to her normal self and happy as can be.. Im sure if someone cut off ( that) part of my anatomy I wouldnt be so happy either

| I was thinking about this a little more--another reason not to be worried... My future in-laws adopted a dog from the humane society that was supposedly a purebred Cairn Terrier (but I think it's really just obese Chihuaha with some sort of terrier thrown in), but the dog had just been spayed the day before. When they adopted it, she was the sweetest, calmest dog. However, my fiance and I now refrain from calling it a "dog" because it is the meanest ANIMAL that anyone I know has allowed in their home. Stella will never be allowed to meet her sister in-law because they're close in size but IT would try to eat my poor Stella...just like it attacked the boxer down the street (that didn't go so well for her). Long story short, I think they change immediately after surgery, but he'll be back to his happy self in no time |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Good question, and some painkillers, instead of sedating, can cause a dog to become hyper. Joey was really hyper the day after surgery, and the vet suggested we stop that particular pain medication, and he did much better after that.

| After Josh was neutered, he was very happy and wanted to play. He is always happy. I did not let him play, because I did not want him to experience pain after playing. The next day he was experiencing some pain from the surgery. He cried when he moved sometimes, which made feel sad. I guess the medicine after the surgery was wearing off. The doctor did not give me any medicine to give Josh after the surgery. I tried my best to make him feel comfortable, and I spoiled him rotten. Two days after the surgery, he was back to himself. I think three days after the surgery your dog will be feeling better just like my dog. I did not know that painkillers could make a dog hyperactive. Thanks for that information Nancy. |

| When I got Chloe spayed all she wanted to do was be on my lap or for me to hold her. It was like that for a few days and then she became her normal self! Never destructive or a devil-furchild! I guess I got pretty lucky with her! |
