Thor's Human Donating Member | Grooming - am I nuts? I have taken Thor to this one grooming shop five or six times now. The first two times, I was thrilled with his cut. The last two or three times, I've told them very specifically that I wanted all the hair on his face left long. Each time I get him back, the hair on the bridge of his nose is cut very short and his front brows are trimmed short as well. The brows are cut in a way that makes him look angry. He is in a puppy cut. Are they just not listening to me, or should I be expecting them to cut the hair on his nose? It's getting VERY frustrating, as of course the hair grows back in and sticks up in his eyes, I make a big effort to let it get long enough that it will start to fall naturally, and then it gets cut off and we start over again. This place is very chi-chi, and they should know more than just the schnauzer cut. Someone is going to ask why I didn't just ask the groomer... which is a good question. I guess I tend to look at the cut more closely after we get home, and then I'm like WAIT, where is the hair??

| Why don't you just groom Thor yourself? It's really not that hard. I do Uni myself, and I wouldn't pay someone $30 plus to do something that I think is fun. BTW, don't forget about the extreme rock paper scissors thread!

Thor's Human Donating Member | Honestly, a big part of it is that I am scared to cut his nails. He is such a scaredy-dog that I think he'd struggle while I did it, and I'm worried I'd clip too close. Do you ever get the feeling that we are the only two people playing in the extreme rock paper scissors thread?

I really don't know how someone can misunderstand, "Don't cut any facial hair." and then go ahead shave his nose....It looks like they're not listening..... I've had some bad luck myself with groomers, I had one drugged and then I had a groomer cut all the hair from between his back legs so when he was walking away from me he looked like he just got off a horse.....

| I would tell them to leave the hair on his face alone. Then I would trim it up at home. Two grooms ago was the best Toby ever had. Last one was sort of mediocre. I was very specific about what I wanted and I ended up cutting his ears shorter when I got him home. Can you just take him to have his nails clipped? They charge 8.00 for it at our place and I don't think you even need an appointment. |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | the exact thing is happening to my yorkie. his hair above his head is finally growing out and its getting in the way of his eyes. i would prefer to grow it out and tie or clip it up, and it looks cuter that way. he's going to groomers really soon and i am not going to let them touch his face. im also scared to cut his nails as well. i purchased a nail filer but never used it. i know what u mean when you say you dont want to hurt them. my sister in law is a groomer and i finally had my pup go to her and she did a great job. she was able to cut his nails very short and everything. im sorry about your grooming situation. maybe you should just try going to someone else or somewhere else.... |

| I am having the same issues with Bailey's groomer. It is soooo frustrating!!!! I have decided that my groomer is not grooming Bailey on every visit??? I can tell the difference. Bailey is perfect when Kristi does it; otherwise, she gets shaved. I'm angry that the other groomer (Mary) is handling my dog - Mary was the first one to groom Bailey and it was an AWFUL experience. I have all the tools to groom Bailey, but I am scared of the nails too. So, I think I'll do it myself next time and get her nails cut seperately. Wish me luck!

I'm wondering if maybe this place is under new management. I explain to the groomers what I want, and they nod, say okay, and then he comes back with the EXACT same cut on the face every time. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and ask them next time why it is happening. Generally, they do seem to get the other stuff I ask for, like trim / don't trim the ears, don't trim the tail, etc. Maybe Thor just has some facial problem I don't see that necessitates hair cutting.

| I have a theory that groomers hate yorkies b/c they are so much work, and that they will do a bad job on purpose so you won't come back. J/K

Most groomers are pretty much all around groomers and don't get the details of each breed down.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Most owners do want the hair on the nose and under the eyes trimmed. I'm a groomer and rarely do i get the request to leave the hair there. They want the eye area clean. This goes true with basically every dog that gets a hair cut. The eye area is always trimmed (with the exception of a few breeds and non hair cut dogs). The people here on YT are very knowledgeable about yorkies and read about them all the time. We know what we want, what works, and what doesn't work. The population of YT makes up a extremely small percentage of yorkie owners however. Most people want a simple short pet cut, clean eyes, round head and round feet. At least that's how it is in my area. At grooming school we were told to clean the eye area of all the dogs that need it unless otherwise instructed.
