| inhaling food My Yorkie is over a year old now and he still eats like he's starving all the time. He seems to inhale his food, a lot of times 20 minutes after he eats it comes back up. I'm feeding him canidae dry and I put a little water on it for him. His weight is normal and I feed about 2 or 3 times a day. Is there anything I can do to teach him to chew, I'm concerned about his teeth. Is there another dog food I should try? |

YT Addict | Sometimes I have to sit and pet Emmett while he is eating to calm him down. Sometimes he just gobbles it up so fast that I worry he'll choke.

| I have had this problem with my older one Gizmo for all 12 years of his life. We have the water bowl that keeps them from drinking too fast and it sure has helped. I have been feeding him on a paper plate and since we have hardwood floors he has to chase it all over the house. It has slowed him down some.

| sorry but i am not really familiar with canidae dry. how big are the kibbles/pellets? yogurt used to inhale his food when he was fed medi-cal? or something like that which i got from the vet's office. the bits were about 1cm in diameter and 1cm long. ever since i started feeding him wellness he started to chew. the wellness bits are really tiny triangles like the size of those "sticker earrings" that i use to play with when i was a kid (not sure if you understand my comparison. its about 3mm each side) i figured that he wasnt chewing his food because it was too big or hard Last edited by yogurtbear; 07-25-2009 at 06:08 PM. |
