where do yorkies sleep all night?

Ever since the day I got mine they slept in bed with me. It started that way with each of them. I could only go maybe a day with having to hear them cry all night! I have 5 in my bed. It used to be 6 but my Pug got evicted b/c he snores! Hubby won't compete! LOL! Our Pug now sleeps with one of my boys. He has to have body warmth. I have a soft black satin dog bed above my head that Sebastian and Contessa sleep in. Killer goes all the way under the covers and sleeps next to my legs. Autumn "HAS" to sleep between me and hubby or between our pillows. Duchess likes to sleep at the foot of our bed next to her daddy or on his pillow and kicks him in the head to get more pollow to herself!

My Bella came to me last September and I thought she would be content to sleep in her crate like my dogs before her. WRONG!!!!! I had never allowed my dogs in my room nor in my bed in the past. I put her in her crate ON my bed...that lasted about 2 nights...before I knew it she was next to me on a baby diaper pad and blanket (just in case). She would snuggle right in my arm as I slept on my side and moved only when she needed to pee.

Bella is pad trained and now a year later she gets up in the middle of the night does her thing and comes right back to bed. When she is hot she sleeps on the bed under the ceiling fan and when she gets chilled she crawls under the covers...lol.

Now she gets up to have a snack....when I wake up I see that she has brought me "gifts" her toys...a piece or two of kibble and one of her bully sticks....makes me laugh each time that she tries to take such good care of me. I can also see that she was up do pee and poop on her pad in the kitchen (no accidents) and came back to bed! The best....no 2 a.m. wake up call!!!!

Right now she is asleep in my lap as I am curled up on the sofa with my laptop. She is a GREAT companion. She is not happy when I leave...I work about 8 - 9 hrs./day. She seems to know when it is a weekend and us girls can hang out! Can't remember her never having been a part of my life!

Thanks sooo much for all this info! I don't feel like such a wimp anymore. She has been in our bed every night ever since my first post. All the reassurance about everyone else having a baby angel in bed with them made me more relaxed. We've done GREAT the past few days. Hubby, who had growled that we'd NEVER have a dog in our bed! Has been the biggest pushover. He was much more okay with it than I was. But all this talk has made me much more confident that she can fend for herself. She's found a spot right up next to my side, or right on my pillow curled around my face. I'm feeling like she is safe now and I've slept fairly sound, so I guess we're set for life!
My next question to everyone is: Has anyone ever flown with their yorkie? I have an 86 yr old mother in another state and it will take me a 12 hr drive or a 1 1/2 flight to get there and I need to visit soon. Is there something I could give her that would help her sleep during the flight? I am thinking to call the vet and ask if it's ok to take her, with the cabin pressure and her being so so sensitive. Anybody have any experience with that??? Thanks to EVERYONE!

Pixel sleeps in the bed with me MOST nights now, but I still put him in his own bed/crate for the night (in my room) occasionally, so that if I ever have to leave him with someone while I go out of town or something, he will do okay.

He has flown all the way to Houston, TX with me and did great! I just got him a new bone and he slept most of the trip there and back, or would chew on his bone. I was so worried he would freak out and drive other passengers crazy, but he was an angel. Be careful with sedatives. I looked into that when we were going and even read on one of the airlines websites not to do it. I forget the exact reason, but something with their breathing and altitude I think. My vet did say Benadryl would be okay to take the edge off if he needed it, but he did fine without. Good luck!

Did you use a soft carrier or a kennel to take onboard with you? Will Delta allow the soft leather shoulder strapped carrying case I have for her? Or do I have to stuff her into her smallest plastic kennel? I'm not sure that will fit under the seat in front of me. Does she have to stay in the kennel the entire time or can I take her out and hold her? What if she has to pottie? Oh I have been obessing over the thots of this! I'd rather drive out than put her thru a miserable two or three hours on a plane and at the airport. My own ears pop and make me crazy on every flight. Jeez. I agree about being very careful with drugs. I doubt I'd have the courage to give her a single drop of anything. I'm terrifed I'd hurt her or make her kooky for the rest of her life...

I used a soft carrier. In fact, it's the black/white one located here: Welcome To Pet Fly's - Trendy, Edgy, Airline approved pet carriers for traveling in style, comfort and safety on board a plane, train, automobile or just hanging out with you. I am trying to think of what airline I flew on. It actually may have been Delta. They allow any size that will fit comfortably under the seat in front of you. A soft carrier helps with this, as it can be squished down a bit if needed. I kept Pixel in the carrier the whole time. I was afraid if I snuck him out for even a minute, he wouldn't want to go back in lol I have heard that it depends on the flight staff. The rule says they have to stay in, but I have many friends who have been able to take them out during the flight because the attendant said it was okay. If she is pee pad trained you can take her to the bathroom (in the carrier) and put her on the floor with a pee pad and let her go. I did this in the bathroom of the airport just before getting on. Worked out great! I think having Pixel chew on the bone helped with his ears too - just like if we swallow or chew gum it helps. He didn't seem to be bothered by it at all. Don't worry, I stressed about it a lot too but it all turned out great!! When we got off the plane the flight attendant saw his head sticking out of the bag and said awww I didn't even know that little one was on my flight

my toy poodle has a dog bed that lies between my hubby and I, kinda on our headboard (we have one that has cubbies in it) and all we say is go to your bed, thats where she goes and stays, if she ventures out of it,(doesnt happen very often) we repeat it again. She is very little and would get killed if my husband was to roll on top of her. She was put in the kennel at night but my husband insisted that she slept with us so thats what we did and we just repeated our selves over and over and praised her when she did what she was told, she caught on very quickly, now we only have to say it once and off to her bed she goes. Her bed goes everywhere with us. My other dogs go in kennels at night and they were trained the same way, all we say is "kennel" and off they go. Dogs can pretty much learn anything, you have to be patient, consistant and use lots of praise!!

Aren't these babies so cute!! My Maddie is famous for making what we call a Maddie sandwhich. No matter how close hubby and I cuddle she manages to wiggle her little legs between us and eventually she wedges herself right between us! She will not move no matter how close we squeeze up to her. Too cute!!!

You should use a soft carrier, just make sure the furbaby can move in it and stand. I'm a ret fight attend for 25 yrs. I fly with my two all the time and they don't mind just try and get the window seat, so u can bend down and touch them on landing and take off , I always put a blanket over their bags so they don't hear to much noise, also the floor is cold in the winter ,made sure they go before getting on the plane, try to limit their intake , until u land.
Please never take them out of the carriers , Why? because some time u have people that have really bad allegic and can get really sick on a flight. If the flight is at night I put the bag on my lap after takeoff and put my hand in there , so they know I'm with them and they feel save. U can put a small toy or stuff animal or bone whatever they like in there for them to play and I also put a blanklet in thier bad. , My always sleep the whole flight and , I have never given them any drugs. I love United , Delta , Airtrans, and American, Southwest just stated to let pets on board. Make sure u call the air line and ask how many pets on your flight before you made your reservation on line , then u call the airline and made reservation for your pet ,only 5 carrier are allowed on same flight. And only 2 in first class.
Never during landing or take off, u should put them on your lap. U should neve put a small dog in the belly of a airplane, it's too cold. U can with a bigger dog , but never with a yorkie.

What ! they think I sleep in their bed Lol. I start to turn off the lights and both jump in my bed , one on each side. They let me sleep in the middle Lol. But I had to buy ext pillows cause they took my, one on each. so now I sleep with 4 pillows and 2 furbabies. And they let me know they don't like it when I move during the night.

I must have the oddest baby!

Fergus sleeps happily in his crate (covered by a blankie, like a parrott!) or with us, either one, equally well!

I toss a LOT, but he figures out where he needs to be (below knee level) and stays put once the tossing starts,

Usually he sleeps between us, and we found that if the room is too cool, he prefers a fuzzy blanket on the bottom of the bed to snuggle down into.

Miles sleeps in his crate, his bed, or in the bed w/ me and my husband. When he does sleep in his bed, he usually ends up in the bed with us in the middle of the night. I think my husband prefers that he sleeps in the crate because as soon as dawn arrives, Miles loves to wake my husband up by licking his face nonstop.

LeRoy and Louie sleep in there doggy beds in our bedroom. Our bed was to high for them to jump on so we decided not to start it. They know no different.

Sorry that I'm late responding to your question about what a Napsak is. One of our members on here Chattiesmom makes them. They are kinda like a long fleece tube, and you fold the sides down to the height that you want. Missy LOVES her, she burrows right into it, and I know many other members are very happy with theirs (btw her silk leash and harnesses are THE BEST too). It just kind of gives them their own space so they don't wander around the bed. I always worry about Missy jumping or falling off, but she knows her spot in her Napsak and just stays put. It also keeps them warm if you are worried about your a/c. I often tuck Missy in with her own little blankie in her Napsak and she'll end up wiggling out of the blankie because the Napsak alone keeps her plenty warm.

Anyways, glad you are enjoying snuggling with your furbaby at night.
