When I realized how much it would cost for regular grooming and read some of the horror stories that YT members have been through with some groomers I decided to spend the money on a pair of clippers, grooming accessories and even a small grooming table. I would think that with a pups first groom that they wouldn't be doing much clipping to help them get accustomed to it. One place that I had looked offered a reasonably priced first groom, however they had suggested that first time she just gets a bath, nail clip and sanitary groom. (I never did bring her :) ) I figure since I cut my kids hair, why not my pets |
Winston always goes to the groomer every 2 weeks and she charges $15.00 each visit. Since he's been sick he has missed 2 sessions, I really don't see how you can only get them groomed every 6 weeks...he's a mess and very hairy right now. I did give him baths, but I just can't do the rest...she's going to have her work cut out for her when I take him in on Tuesday. But I bet she still only charges me $15.00...I simply love my groomer. |
I live in NYC and its $85, not including tip. I would pay your price anytime! |
I take Penny in every 4 months or so for a "big" grooming and get her shaved down nice and short on the body and her head trimmed up nice and evenly. The girl who grooms her charges me $30 for that. In between, I tidy-up groom her myself, using scissors to tidy up the hair around her eyes and clippers to give her sanitary trims beneath her tail. I always do her nails myself, once a week. I think a pair of scissors, strong nail clippers, and an inexpensive set of hair clippers was a great investment, considering how much money it saves in the long run. Penny's no show dog, and my main interest in grooming her isn't to make her drop dead gorgeous but to keep her clean and healthy, and we can manage that very well at home. :) |

Take the time to observe , then try and choose a good groomer to go to. It is not about the money , it's more about how well the groomer handles the dogs in their care, and how well the groomer, takes care of the dogs, and grooms , and has a professional attitude is the most important thing IMO. |

HIGH Price Vs. GOOD Service? :animal-paI took my Neko (who is 5 years old and about 9lbs.) to the local "Petco" here in Michigan. To give him a bath only the charge is $26.00. However, for full grooming service (Bath, Cut, Trim, Clean Ears, Cut Nails, Brush Teeth, etc.) the charge is $51.00! My husband thinks that this is rediculious. Well, I should call him in here to read this entire thread..lol! Anyway, so long as you can afford the charge, the cost is not a problem for me. My problem is the SERVICE! I've taken Neko to this Petco ever since I got him (a few months ago). A couple of days ago was the second time I'd had him receiving the FULL service groom and was UNHAPPY! I like Neko with a full body of fur. When I take him, they ask how I want him done. Well, when I pick my baby up I hardly recognize him. Boy wasn't I upset. When you tell someone to "TRIM/SHAPE UP" I'd think it is a difference from "CUT" or "SHAVE"! They not only shaved my dog when I asked for a trim only, but they didn't cut his nails properly and he still had an "out doorsie" type odor to him. I couldn't even smell the shampoo. I was sooo disappointed. My husband told me to call and let them no and perhaps they would apologyze and give me a discount next time. I did't! I just won't deal with them again. I know his hair will grow back (it did the last time they did it. It took 2 1/2 months, tho!) I just don't like it when he looks that way. The first time I figured not to get upset and just stress it better the next time I take him in. WELL, I DID! And they SHAVED my dog! Sorry to vent, just alittle upset about that. Anyway, If you can find someone whom you can trust and gives you "GREAT" service...I'd say "Pay IT". Full grooming is not paid everyday! And getting "GOOD" service is hard to come by! |
