| Odd Question I feel a little weird asking about this. When we first got Toby he right away started "humping" and I remember thinking "wow..really? already?" I would have thought it would come closer to when he was 6 months for some reason. Well then he stopped for quite awhile. What I didn't realize was that his stopping coincided with my son taking a trip over seas. Well my son came back Monday and the "naughty" behavior has resumed although now it is all directed at my son. Toby is only 15 weeks old but I guess it's never too young. Is there anything I can do about this...or should do? I do of course tell him no and make him go away from the family for a few minutes, but I just wonder if there's something I can be doing to help Toby. Especially since the behavior had completely stopped with the departure of my son. |

| I have heard several times that humping is done to show dominance in the pack, not sure how true this is. I do know that my dominant female does not hump either me or my hubby but she does get on top of the other pets around us and I am sure it is about dominance with her. We just correct her to get her off from them and she is on her way. Sorry if this sounds way off base... lol

| Humping is a sign of dominance. Maybe your pup is competing with your son for your attention? I would just tell him "no" and try not to make too big a deal of it, and make sure not to play with him as a means of distraction since these things might make him think his behavior is working. Jaimi |

| OK well that's what I figured I just thought it was weird that he only does it to my son and that it stopped completely when my son was traveling. I thought maybe with that being the case there might be something I could do but I have to keep both my boys so I guess they'll deal! hehe |

| HAHA i had the same problem with Bailey, he was only about 12weeks and he was humping my exs dog on the head... and she was letting him!!! eeek!! It them moved onto toys haha. I thought he was just urm ...randy LOL so i took him to get his ''man hood'' chopped off thinking that it wud help.... it really didnt, he still humps my toys haha. It is a sign of dominance thats why he is not humping you coz he knows he is not the boss, but he is trying to show ur son he is the boss. Your son needs to tell him ''NO'' and show he is higer in the pack than him. Does ur son walk him? xx

| Jackson was 9 weeks old when he started humping his teddy bear, LOL. I always just let him back then 'cause he was just a puppy, it wasn't about dominance, he wasn't neutered, etc. He never did it to other animals or people. So, I let him hump his one stuffed bear lol. He got neutered around 6 1/2 months and hasn't humped in a month or something (He's 9 months now)

| Ranger does this now too. He is 14 weeks and has been doing it for a few weeks. I think it is about dominance because he only does it when we are playing and he will start growling while he is doing it. Sometimes he will try to and just fake it for a minute if he isn't actually touching the object. So I am sure it is not for pleasure.

| I knew it was dominance, I guess it just surprised me the family member he picked to dominate. I would have thought my 11 year old daughter of my 13 year old son. <shrugs> silly puppy!! |
