Ranger does this now too. He is 14 weeks and has been doing it for a few weeks. I think it is about dominance because he only does it when we are playing and he will start growling while he is doing it. Sometimes he will try to and just fake it for a minute if he isn't actually touching the object. So I am sure it is not for pleasure.
