| I just got a 7 week old Yorki :) I have been wanting a yorki ever since my Gf's Mom got one. I had a friend who accidentally breaded there dogs and she gave me a baby male yorki. He is AKC breed i believe that's what she said. So far i have had him a week, and he seems to be doing great other than his extreme chewing habbits. He has been potting on the pads when im home, but if i leave him out and come back its on the floor. Why's that? Also I noticed that my yorki is not into cuddling? I thought all yorkies loved there owners? He prefers to go find a hiding place and sleep, rather than sleep with me. He goes into the courner of my leather couch and sticks his head down into the cusion. Its cute, but i feel like he's not going be cuddly dog later. Is this just a puppy stage? Will they grow out of it? If not, how would you recommend fixing this? I bet he just misses, mom and his brothers and sisters. We named him Scooby. |

| He is very young too young to be away from his mother. He is also getting used to a new environment. Give him time and Im sure he will become more cuddly. I think they are more cuddly as adults also. You have to keep him confined when you arent watching him or he'll have accidents. Potty training takes time and yorkiies are notorious for being hard to potty train.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Welcome and Congratulations! Just be patinet. 7 weeks is a little young to be taken from his mother. Usually around 12 weeks is better. He will bond with you. Just give him a little more time!

| We got Allie at 6 weeks, which by the experts is WAY to young to seperate MamaYorkie and BabyYorkie. Oh well. What's done is done. Congrats on your new addition! If your little boy is anything like our little girl then watch out! The first few days she didn't want to cuddle. She didn't really know what to think or do. It took her about two or three weeks to grow out of that. She chewed on EVERYTHING, so make sure to get a ton of nice things for her to chew on (except rawhide... blah!) Your boy will grow to be much more cuddly. Allie follows me all over the house now and won't sleep at night unless she is cuddled with someone. Congrats again! You've found a great plethora of information here on YorkieTalk!

The people i got him from were an elderly couple, and they are up at 5-6am, so i have a feeling he's used to there schedual. I'll post pictures this weekend. I forgot to ask, He is a little overweight i think lol. They fed him little champions food pouches and gave me some. I've been feeding it to him everyday. He also get pedigree puppy show solid food. Is the little champions wet food good for him? I'm worried that its making him chubby lol. He has a big belly. He's still very cute and i give him all day access to food and water. | Yeah, i bought him 2 miniature tennis balls and he loves them. I also tied up some old socks so he could chew on which he loves as well, and a squeaky toy that he loves to make squeak lol. I bought him some healthy edibles dog chew bones, and he seems to like them as well. |

| Congratulations on your new tiny baby. Please make sure that you have either Nutra-Cal or Karo syrup on hand in case he goes into a hypoglycemic episode. These are symptoms: "Most common clinical signs of hypoglycemia are drowsiness, shivering, collapsing, disorientation, seizures, listlessness, depression, muscle weakness and tremors." (Hypoglycemia Symptoms and Treatment) Also, be sure to clean up any poo or pee accidents with an enzyme cleaner such as Nature's Miracle. If you don't he'll always go back to those spots. I'm sure you are having lots of fun. ~Joanne~

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Welcome to YT. There are a lot of better foods to feed him, but when you switch do it slowly. Some of the better foods are Canade, Wellness, Innova and if you do a search you will find a lot of good info on foods. He sounds like a smart little guy. Another option besides the crate is to get an expen and fence his crate in there with a place for the pee pad that way he has more room. Can't wait to see pictures.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Congrats on the puppy and welcome to YT. I agree that he could be on a better puppy food. I prefer Wellness, but other good brands include innova and solid gold. The wellness and solid gold you will be able to find at petco and the innova you need to go to a smaller pet store for. As for the big belly it could be the food but it could also be worms. Have you taken him to the vet yet? If you haven't i'd bring a poop sample with you. He's due for his first distemper vaccine about now too. 8 weeks is the youngest they can get their first distemper combo vaccine.

Good post, I also want to urge you to know the symptoms of hypoglycemia, as others have stated, most yorkies are still with the mom at this age. They are prone to hypoglycemia the first 6 months of age because they have no fat storage. Have you thought about free feeding? This means having food in the bowl at all times, and allowing the puppy to eat whenever he's hungry. Best of luck, and we love to see puppy pictures!

| Hi there, and welcome to YT ! I can't wait to see pictures of your new baby It is a good idea to free feed your new baby a higher quality puppy food. A kibble diet is best, and good for their little puppy teeth, and emerging teeth . What has already been said, take him to a good vet too. His swollen belly could be an indication of worms, which is very common in young puppies. It's simply treated by deworming, + a vaccine schedule is good to get him started on right now. Keep training him on the puppy pads , is perfect , because he is too young to be outside, and exposed to other animals. Congradulations on your new puppy .
