Is my Bailey abnormal because he isn't a fluff ball? 2 Attachment(s) My poor Bailey is always having a bad hair day! He is over 14 weeks and the hair on his head and chin area is so stringy! He doesn't have the big thick fluff on his face that I see on so many other little yorkie babies. Also the hair on his paws isn't really growing much, it kind of stops growing at his ankles:eek: Is it unusual for his fur to be thin and stringy on his head? Poor baby needs rogaine or something, I'm hoping it thickens up, the longer it gets the more bad hair days he is having:p |
he is adorable |
2 Attachment(s) He looks like two of my babies. It will grow in. It seems like since he is stringy the puppy hair is going away and the stringyness is the adult hair coming in. My Autumn is like that now look at her. Her hair is nice and long. Her hair on her legs is still not really there but she is getting it. I don't do anything special to her hair. I have read on here that some of them use supplements or hair cremes. The first pic is Autumn and the second is one of my puppies. :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
Are you sure that he is purebred? He looks just like my brother's girlfriends chihuahua yorkie mix.. I can definately see alot of chihuahua in him..Either way he is precious and you love him so that is all that matters....:) |
Darlene, what a precious little weenie. He is tiny and soooo cute... |

Thanks for the sweet comments everyone, now I'm wondering if he is even purebred! |

I thought the same thing when I viewed his pics....He is very cute anyways!:p Mary |
Don't stress yourself out over whether or not he's a purebred. Yorkie hair types vary so much. I've seen them silky, wiry, cottony...Ginger and Bernie have such completely different hair types it's hard to believe they are the same breed...Also, a yorkie's hair goes through a lot of changes in the first year, wait and see what happens. |

Maybe you could post his pic in the breeder forum and ask their opinion. They know a lot more about it. |
He is still so young, but he does look like he could be mixed- kinda almost like a Dachshund because he is so short and long! LoL but there are so many different types of Yorkies and they all vary in shape and hair, I think time will tell he could just be in a funk. |

Holy cow, I looked at chorkie pics and there is so much variation! Chorkie, Chorkies, Chihuahua Yorkie Hybrid They are all super cute though:D I just called the breeder and asked if there was anyway Bailey could have Chihuahua in him..she sounded a little upset that I would even ask! And she said NO, definately not..But everyone else with yorkies seems to think so. |
2 or 3 have posted that he might not be purebred, others have expressed that they've had yorkies with similar hair. (see previous post where she has a litter with both types of hair) |

Darlene, your Bailey is a Yorkie. And a very cute one. Who is your Breeder so that we can compare.. |
Darlene, I think Bailey is so cute and you have nothing to worry about. Ranger sometimes makes me wonder too tho because he does have the more narrow snout rather than the flat face you see most often with Yorkies, and to me he looks like he has a lot of hair on his body! |
Your little one is just the cutest dollbaby!!! You are very lucky as he looks like a happy and loved little yorkie! |
you know, i think that yorkies can be like people a little in this respect. I am a hairstylist and even kids from the same parents can have VERY different hair textures. My little Tobey doesn't have very thick hair at all on his legs- very wispy looking. of course i would love it to be a little thicker- funny thing is that he was a fluff ball as a puppy. but I love him all the same. |
I agree with the other person. All yorkie's hair is different! He is adorable! |
My two yorkies couldn't look more different if they tried. Toby is 2 and Lola is just 14 weeks. He's all fluff and light colored, and she looks so much like your Bailey they could be related!! Toby's hair started out very much like Lola's and Bailey's, so I would just enjoy every second with him and give it time. I thought Toby's would never grow in, and now I don't think it will EVER stop!! Bailey is adorable!!! |
read up on red leg yorkies. (I hope I am saying that right??) It was on here the 1st time I ever heard of it. The hair don't grow as much, and is the darker red color and fells different but still full blooded. |
My experience is the thinner hair as a puppy is just a stage that eventually turns to the gorgeous silky coats we all want. The fluffier puppy coats that are thick and full, often times wind up being those cottony coats that although still pretty and cuddly, are not standard and can cause a lot of grooming frustration. But there are exceptions to every "rule." Don't worry! Puppies can change so very much. Yours is only 14 weeks old and has LOTS of time to change in dozens of ways. But there is also a LOT of variation between purebred Yorkies. Just look through the adult pictures here on Yorkie Talk! We have all sorts, shapes, sizes, and color variations. I would always trust the breeder unless they have given reason not to. I would guess you have a purebred puppy. You might wind up with a Yorkie that would get docked a few points on confirmation, but regardless he is absolutely adorable! It is funny that some of the things they would dock points for -- short legs/body not square -- are traits I find adorable. A lot of people prefer that "look." So, as long as you are not putting him in a show ring, or breeding, then I would think he is just perfect! |

1 Attachment(s) I think then that the two puppies that I have might be the red leg then. Their hair is really dark golden red. They are 11 weeks right now. Autumn is or will be 1yr. on Aug. 17th. I just put her pic in there to show that there is hope. Here is a pic of her at about 7 or 8 months old with her mom Contessa. You can see how her legs are bare and now she looks just fine. |
