| New to yorkies! Hi, everyone (or anyone)! I am new to YorkieTalk & new to Yorkies. 2 weeks ago we had to put down our lab/pit mix (a rescue) of 13 years We were left with our 17 year old Bijon mix (also a rescue). Since we don't have kids & they had been together for 12 years, we decided we couldn't leave Sharky (17) alone in the house, so we started taking him everywhere. The day after we put Boy down, we went with Sharky to the post office & the Post office lady asked us if we wanted a Yorkie. We said, "No, thanks, we just put our dog down & we're not ready for another dog & we can't afford to buy one anyway." She said, "No, it's free. A lady my brother works with doesn't want it anymore." So we said OK & gave her our number. She called us that night & told us her sister saw the dog & wants to keep it! We though OK, it wasn't meant to be. The next morning she call & says, "If you want the dog, you have to go pick it up at my sister's right now!" We said, "What's the address?!?" When we went to pick him up, the woman brought him out to us like if he had the plague! Holding him way out in front with 2 fingers! He was shaking like a leaf & didn't want to go with anyone. We took Sharky & he wanted nothing to do with Sharky. Anyway, by that night, after being fed a human size plate of chicken & rice (he eats like a horse) & a warm bath & LOTS of affection, he was happy & playful & Sharky & Tiny (what we named him) are the best of friends! So we've had him about 2 weeks & there are MANY things I just don't know about these dogs! I have LOTS of specific question, but I've rambled on so long, I'd like to know that there's someone out there reading this that I can ask! Thanks in advance for ANYONE taking the time to read this! | I don't have anything to really offer you for advice. I am a new yorkie owner since Feb. I just want to say congratulations on your new addition. I love my little girl "to pieces" as I constantly tell her. I'm glad you got the little guy. It doesn't sound like the others would have been good for him. I'm sure you'll get lots of helpful hints just by reading all the threads that you can here. It's full of info. Dion

| WOW! Thanks! Let me start by saying that I took him to the vet & he's 100% healthy. She's the one who told me he's about a year old. I was looking at him closely today & noticed that it looks like if he had "lice". I was an art teacher for 16 years & have had it on 2 occasions, it sucks! I immediately went to ask.com & that's how I found you all! Anyway, I read that someone suggested frontline plus. I started him on Comfortis, the flea pill, the day I took him to the vet, but I DO have frontline plus. The only problem is that I have it in vials & a syringe. I used to give .65 to sharky which weighs 14 lbs, but Tiny weighs 6 pounds. How much should I give him? & is frontline safe for such a small dog? Also, we think we need to nueter him b/c he humps EVERYTHING & is getting possessive over toys & rawhides. Is that a good idea? I don't know what to do b/c he's So tiny. Thanks SO much!!! |

| Just make sure that you use the Frontline that is for the weight your Yorkie is.......6 lbs. Along with Frontline you need to use some sort of heartworm preventative such as Heartguard. I use Revolution and that has the heartworm preventative in it. My 12 yr. old, Rosie, can't tolerate Frontline. It gives her the shakes and she is sick for several days after. And blessings for taking this little baby in. ~Joanne~

YT Addict | I would have him neutered. It will be easier on you if you did it. He wont be humping everything and being possessive over toys and food. I find them to become more cuddly and calm to when you get them neutered. |

| Oh, you rescued him, how heartwarming! Why didn't the other people want him, because of the lice? Can a dog have lice? or is it something else. Never heard of that. Please call your vet office and ask them about the frontline plus. My sister just had to put her lab down and it is heartbreaking. So sorry to hear that. Glad Tiny found you. What does he weigh, not sure if you stated or not and how old is he? Can't wait to see pics!

| Hi and to Yorkie Talk! God bless you for taking Tiny in and giving him a loving home. Don't ever worry about "rambling", we all do it. We go on and on and on about our yorkies! It's really hard not to!

| Welcome to YT! Tiny sounds like a great little one. I use Comfortis and Sentinel (heartworm preventative) with Scooter and he does really well with it. I didnt like Frontline because if you bathe them within some period or, like Scooter, your guy loves the sprinklers in the back yard, all the medicine goes away. Scooter got fleas regardless of the medicine. Our vet switched us and frankly it is so much easier to just give him a pill and not worry about it. Good luck and enjoy YT!
