Thank you. I went out and bought window and door alarms, plus timers for my lights and we are leaving the TVs on. My sister is probably going to take them for a little while. We are going to move as soon as we can, we already have paid throuh the 8th of next month but of we find a place soon we are just leaving. Better to be safe then sorry

Our house was broken into once. We didn't have a dog at the time and the police said if we had a dog, the barking might have discouraged the burglars because nobody wants to take a chance on getting bitten. So if you decide to keep your dogs with you maybe they will be a deterrent to someone trying to break in.

I know exactly how you feel. We went from an area with no crime to having a few houses in my area robbed. We got an alarm system and leave lights and radio on. Also, get friendly with the neighbors and watch each others houses. You might want to start a neighborhood crime watch in your new area. We have in our area with posted signs and homeowners patrolling.

The fact that it's happening in broad daylight and at gun point, I'd be out of there as quick as I can. For the slider, you can lay a broom handle in the grid and it will prevent the door from opening. Some great suggestions here. Why not start a community watch program?

Do you have a home security system? How about video spy camara. I think they sell those at Walmart.

Talk with your neighbors and help watch each others places. Don't just look out the window as they tend to break windows in back to get in, it's less noticable. When we watch our neighbors house we always walk around the house twice a day to check all windows and doors on all sides.

We didnt necessarily have anyone getting robbed in our neighborhood but one day while I was outside with my two on the deck- they were running in the yard- someone came up the side of the house and until they realized that I was out there were headed right towards my Roxie, it was very scary... I hope that you figure something out!

Definetly take your twins to your sisters house > If it were me, I would be packing things up now, placing it in storage, and living with my sister for a while. Until I could find a new place to live. this is not only dangerous to your dogs it is deadly to you or anyone in that area . Do you work in that area? Can you take a leave of absence?
If you are not on a lease , and you have paid through the month , then you can just get out of there anytime you want to anyhow, just leave it very clean so you can get your deposit back. And I am thinking your sister will love to have you stay with her for a while too

Tough call, but two little things you can do are
(1) make sure they are microchipped so if they disappear they have a greater chance of getting back to you one day
(2) get one of those tags that says "Diabetic - If found please bring to vet"

I don't know if a thief would actually pause to read such a tag, but maybe it would help them decide to not take your doggy.

So today I went and bought window alarms for all the windows and the slider. I have the metal clamps that keep the window from opening and I bought a piece of wood for the slider to reinforce it. (FYI: I found the same window alarms that they sell for $6-10 at the Dollar Tree! So that saved me a lot because I needed 9 of them. I bought the timers for the lights in my livingroom and bedrooms.

Jer wanted to rent a place right next to his work, literally, and I am going to stay there until October. So I think we have the living situation worked out. They are going to call him tomorrow to let him know if they have a condo avaliable and when. Plus he gets a months rent free so that will work out perfect since we already paid this months we won't be losing much. I am waiting for my sister to get back into town as they had a long 4th of July and we are going to schedule a time to drop them off and set up. Someone will be with them 24-7 so I will have nothing to worry about there. I will just really be missing them but I would rather them be safe.
