YorkieTalk Newbie! | First Day Home I'm bringing home my yorkie on Thursday and I'm curious to know whether or not he can be exposed to ANY sun. He's only 6 weeks old. |

| Hi! fellow Texan!! It will be fine for him to have sun. (it's July in Texas...the sun is nearly impossible to avoid, right? ) Just be careful he doesn't get overheated. They can very easily, especially with the temps we are having right now. He shouldn't be on the ground outside until after all his puppy shots, but if you have a backyard that no unvaccinated dogs haven't been in, he'll be ok there. You just have to be careful of 'public' areas where he might pick up something from other dogs. You can take him out in public, just don't let him down and don't let him come into contact with strangers or other dogs until after all his shots. People can transmit some things and as much as everyone wants to touch a puppy I always just said, "I'm sorry he hasn't had all his shots and shouldn't be touched yet." People usually understand and if they don't they aren't the type you want touching your baby anyway.

| Great Luck with your little one 6 weeks ... that's a real tiny guy I'd keep the sun exposure really light It's the exact same thing as bringing a newborn outside You can but watch the temp and the exposure to outside contamination My guys got a case of kennel cough the first time they went for shots

| 6 weeks old Unless there is a really, really good reason you are bringing home such a young puppy please reconsider it and leave the baby with it's mommy for at least 3 more weeks. 6 weeks old is way to early to take a puppy away from it's mom. If you do some research on this you will find tons of postings against this. If you have to bring the baby home, do not under any circumstances allow it to be around any other dogs until all it's shots have been given..... Do not take it to any pet stores as you don't know anything about the other dogs.... |
