| Maggie is so scared!!! I am down the jersey shore for the summer.Maggie(now just under 2yrs old and 3 1/2 lbs) has always loved all kind of dogs and people. We do lots of walking here. Yesterday morning on our normal walk on the beach Maggie was trampled by a excited lab pup who just wanted to play. She was not hurt in anyway. She was yelping like i have never heard before. I carried her most of the way home with her little heart pounding!! Maggie still does not want to walk past another dog and is wary of people too. I have to help her get past this. ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL HELP.... I am thinking i need to keep walking her and calmly and address each situation until she feels safe again? Thanks in advance for your advice |

| I can understand you anxiety, my Pip ran up to some full grown Labs, and one of them attacked her and the rest jumped in to 'help'. Luckily there were several people around to quickly break it up and she ended up with a bruise on her hind leg from a bite and some scratches down her back. She yelped for nearly a full minute at the top of her lungs while I was holding her afterwards. Now, when a dog comes up to her, she rolls over in full submissive posture, and she's very uncomfortable around any dog bigger than her. I'm glad your baby wasn't hurt. Maybe time and some supervised contact with a dog whose not so exuberant will build her confidence back. |

♥Tiny Tia my Furbaby♥ Donating Member | Your poor baby. Maggie just needs to get her confidence back up again..Yesterday Tia got trampled accidentally by my sisters German shepherd and was wary for a while but soon got over it. It must of put the frightners on Maggie, glad she is ok though.

| What worked for me when building up Annie's confidence was, taking her out and just sitting someplace where people where walking by. Not too close by at first, then move closer to them as she relaxes. Let her see them coming towards her and walking by her with nothing bad happening. Talk calmly to her, but don't coddle as you don't want to 'encourage' her to be afraid. Take some treats and if you see someone you think would be open to helping, give them a treat and ask if they'd walk toward her, stop and offer her the treat, "Here Maggie, this is for you.", then walk on. She may be too frightened at first to take the treat, so you can have them lay it by her. Don't have them pet her or linger. Also, do you have any friends who have dogs that Maggie knows? Taking her for walks along with another confident dog will help ease her anxiety. And like Yorkie Mad said, she will sense your tension, so you must have a calm, positive attitude. Be very upbeat and happy, not excited, just calm and happy. Good luck!
