| Nervous about first groomer visit... have lots of questions Grooming questions seem to be popular tonight! hehe. Tobie has his first groomer visit tomorrow and I am having pre-separation anxiety. lol. It's going to kill me leaving him there tomorrow. First, Do groomers usually get a dog done faster if you drop them off early? Second, I've decided I want to keep him in a puppy cut but I'm not a big fan of the way clippers look on Yorkies. I came across this picture of a little cutie on here named Chewy http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/att...u-got-yt67.jpg and I am going to take this pic with me to the groomer tomorrow. In her post, she said she only uses scissors on him. Should I make sure to stress that I only want scissors used and no clippers? I've noticed that I'm not a huge fan of the way clippers used on Yorkies looks. Do groomers usually get annoyed by this? Does it usually cost more for that? I am so totally clueless for this first visit. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

| You should talk to your groomer about dropping off/picking up. Our groomer is busiest in the mornings, so she can't always say an early drop off means early pickup (I have two, so it takes even longer). You should also ask about the charge for the cut before you leave so there are no unpleasant surprises when you pick your baby up. I talk to my groomer like I would my hair stylist: I know the look I want, and she knows how to actually get it. The one thing I'm specific on is Ella's ears--I hate when they shave the tips, so I only have those trimmed with scissors. My groomer has never said acted angry or annoyed when I talk to her about what I want, but she'll tell me if something will be hard to do.

| Kystee, I am a groomer in Ga and I promise you won't hurt anybody's feelings by telling the groomer what you want. For me it's the clients that have know idea what they want that can be hard! It may cost you alittle more to have him done with ony sissior work and it may take more time to do. Since he is a puppy she may (He is isn't he) want to get him done and out pretty quick. Don't worry he will be fine....This will be good for him. Mel

Senior Yorkie Talker | I think it is very important to state what you want done and providing a picture is excellent. The questions I would want to know are: do you hand dry or put in a drying cage. (I would only go to a groomer who hand dries.) Do you do the dogs by appt. or do you take them all in at once early in the am and then he could sit there for hours. (Obviously, an appt. is preferred.) What kind of shampoo do you use? Can I provide my own? Do you sanitize the razors between dogs? I would want to make sure they clip toenails, express anal glands, strip ears, brush teeth and shave the sanitary area. I also prefer the area between their eyes to be hand cut as opposed to shaved. Just be very precise in your instructions. I hope he has a good appt. and turns out beautiful.

| Ramsey just had his first grooming last week. Our groomer made the 1st appointment short so that he would get used to her and have fun while he was there. She charged us less for the 1st visit because she didn't do as much as she normally would. I took along pictures of Yorkie cuts that I like and she did the best she could in that short visit. Hopefully, as time goes on and he gets more used to the process she can work on him more thoroughly. We were very pleased with what she did manage to accomplish. |
