| Scratching, no fleas.... Ok, so Roxy has been scratching since shortly after her first bath and it looks to me like she might have some slight dandruff. She does not have fleas (at least none that I can see) and she is on the same food that the breeder had her on. Any ideas why she could be scratching. We use Minksheen to bathe her with. Could she be allergic or could it be drying her skin out??

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Try rinsing her chin & feet better next time. Sometimes leftover shampoo can cause the itching. Under the chin is a hard place to get. Roxy had a little dandruff after baths the first few weeks. Not sure why, but it disappeared after awhile. Think the better diet probably helped.

YT 1000 Club Member | We've been going thru this too. I see no fleas either. I rinse as good as I can but thought it was our shampoo (where do you get the minksheen shampoo?). I have to wonder if it's not a little grass allergy. If I think back a bit she's really been itchy more since it's gotten nice outside. Maybe it's just a doggy thing?

| Uni is the same way. No fleas, but still scratching her shoulders and sides of the face. Probably a food allergy but it's so difficult to pinpoint what it is in the diet that they are allergic to. We've switched to Minksheen and giving omega 3 and still haven't seen improvment yet.

Senior Yorkie Talker | You might want to try an oatmeal based shampoo. And the biting of paws after they have been outside could be from the grass. I would do what the previous post suggested and rinse and dry them with just water after she comes in.

| It could be allergies. Prince's scratching got so bad that I finally had allergy tests done on him a few months ago. He is not only allergic to a lot of foods (beef, buffalo, carrots, peanuts, pecans, eggs, etc.), but he is also allergic to all kinds of grasses, weeds, trees and well, just about everything inside and outside the house Changing his diet helped a lot. Now that the weather is nice and he is spending more time outside, the scratching is getting worse again. I'm really trying to avoid having to give him shots. |

| We went through this with Reggie and then when we had him groomed for the first time they used an oatmeal shampoo on him and he had even worse dander and scratching when he got home. I mentioned it to the groomer the next time I took him in for a nail clipping and she said lets switch him to Dermapet Malacetic shampoo. She sells it and I bought some to use on him myself for his next bath. It is a soapless formula and you lather them up and let it soak for 5-10 mins before you rinse. It helps with dry skin and skin allergies. It worked wonders for him! I use every time he is bathed now even if I don't do the "soak". In the winter when his skin seems more dry I will do the soak. He doesn't have the dander since we switched him to this either. My vet was so impressed with how Reggie's skin has cleared up that she wanted me to write down the name of it so she could recommend it to other clients. |
