| Socialization ? I've heard a lot of people on here say not to take your pups anywhere until the vaccinations are complete. That would mean 16-20 weeks old. how do you socialize your pups then? |

| I strongly disagree with that common practice. I know the vets have good intentions but what about the mental heath of the puppy? It will for sure be affected by the poor socialization at early age. And really the chance of catching Parvo or other virus is low if you avoid parks and other pets/animals. Yorkie puppies are really small and easy to carry in a purse, take him out with you so he'll get use to peoples and noises in a safe way. Start with short trip of coarse not a full afternoon of shopping. When you have friends/family over, give them the puppy's favorites toys or treats to encourage the pup to go to them by himself. Take your puppy with you to friend/family house that don't have pet. Avoid carpet area... Discourage people from petting the puppy directly on the top of his head and back as it is a gesture of dominance. The Face and the side of the dog will be way less threatening and help him accept stranger easier. Good luck and have fun with your puppy. |

| If you've ever had a dog with parvo, you follow the vet's instructions. It's worth the wait. They are still exposed to people. |

| We got Tiki at 10 weeks on a Tuesday. She had a bath at the groomers the next day and she went to the boeling alley after. She has been everywhere with us since. She is totally socialized. She is the pet of Target, KMart and now WalMart. One funny story. One day at KMart, I was in the rest room and Tiki was with her Dad. She sits on a blanket in the pourse section of the cart. He told me that a lady on a scooter came by and she had a little basket on the scooter with a little white dog in it. the lady said to her dog, "look, there's another little dog", as they came upon them. Then her dog started barking. Tiki looked at the dog with her look of disdain as if to say, "What is your problem?" The lady took her dog off.. A bit later I was back with the cart and Tiki. I ran across the same lady. She asked me if that was the dog her dog barked at. I told her it was and she asked me if Tiki ever barked. I smiled and told her, "not in stores. She knows better". She has had to learn to be on her best behavior as she has been in trtaining to be a service dog for me. She has now finished her training and is registered on the national register. She is amazing! Thor's Human Donating Member | I think you can still take them to doggy daycare, sine all the dogs there will have had their shots. At least, I've known people who did this.

Yorkie Yakker | We got our Bella fairly late at 16 weeks and she only started socialising then. She is absolutely fine with other dogs. We did take her everywhere with us but we carried her. To other friends houses etc. Just make sure he/she meets lots of other people and join him/her straight up to a puppy pre school as soon as she/he is fully vaccinated.

| I think this whole premise of socializing after 16 months is lame..My sprinkles is 3.5 months old and has all shots except rabies..I have been taking him within the apartment complex since he was 3 months or so....he is great in socializing...by socializing i guess you mean socializing with humans..he did play for a few minutes with a different dog a few minutes back..with humans he is great..he will run if he sees anyone and start showering puppy love to everyone...i took him 2 times to my office and he played around with at least 30 people for about 2 hours... |

My vet's instruction were to get my Kiara out and meet as many people as possible. which I have done since the 3rd day I brought her home she was almost 9 weeks and she loves everyone now. It's just I see so many yorkies that are scared and shaking and I get told by the owners he/she hasn't been socialized much and I hear people on here tell new owners to wait till there fully vaccinated. | |

Like someone said previously, you can put him in the car and travel with him in a purse but its picking germs up from other dogs you need to watch. I wouldn't take any chances on taking him to a field before shots.

♥Tiny Tia my Furbaby♥ Donating Member | mnsweeps are you implying that its ok for a pup without shots to mix with other dogs other than your own or people you know whose dogs have had their shots? I really don't think so ,the risk is far too high. To socialize with all sorts of people , yes defo. I took Tia out from 13 wks in my purse but I wouldn't put her on the floor. In fact the vet insisted we didn't put her on their floor either until she was fully vaccinated.
