In a case such as this, I wouldn't be as worried, but in the OP's case, it sounds like they could be breeding dogs that have outlived their usefulness. The woman said they were three years old, but they might be much older. There's nothing wrong with getting a retired breeding dog, don't get me wrong, but you want to make sure the breeder gave them proper care through the years, or there might be many expensive health concerns. I personally think it's much safe to go through a legitimate rescue, and at least you know what your up against and potential physical, as well as behavioral problems. Since they only charge around $300.00 and often have put much more into the dog, it seems like a better deal to me. To the OP, I hope all goes well, and I hope you get a vet check as soon as possible.

It's not too unheard of. When we moved we rehomed Maddie - a small, purebred yorkie - for free. In desperate times people care less about getting money than they do getting their dogs to a good home.

Can't wait to hear what happened. Hopefully she's just so busy playing with her new pups she hasn't had time to get on. :)
I think you missed the part about this woman being a breeder and needing to rehome several. When someone needs to rehome one that does not throw up red flags but when you place an ad that is vague it is very troublesome. It wasn't until she called that she was told that this was a breeder closing shop and moving. You need to be very leery of a situation like this as is could turn into something that you were not expecting.

I looked up any papers near where the OP lives (or what her location states anyway)... but I didn't have much luck. I couldn't find anything about a free yorkie.

I too, realize that yes, you CAN get free yorkies and pretty much anything else you want. BUT, this lady in particular SAID she was a kennel. She isn't a friend needing to rehome, she is a perfect stranger off the internet/paper/whatever and one never knows how these things will turn out.
Indeed I hope for the best but am usually prepared for the worst in this type of situation. Reality can really suck when your hopes are up too high!

You are right Nancy, I guess I got kinda side tracked with my own experience! When there is just one dog needing to be rehomed, like what happened to my customer, it is not uncommon to give it to a friend or family member for free. But this lady has several of them, from what I understand? Then yes, that is cause for some concern, or at least caution.
