Getting a free yorkie! Ok, it started out that I saw an ad yesterday stating they were giving away a free yorkie, well i personally have never seen that before, and thought it might be a scam so i called the number given and left a message. I just got off the phone with an older woman telling me that she used to run a kennel and her husband was put into a nursing home, she was moving into the nearest town and she couldn't take care of THEM anymore. I was surprised by the statement of THEM because the ad made it sound like one. She stated that she has boys and girls and the ones she told me about are 3-5 years. I asked her if I would be able to come look at them and possibly bring a couple home. So I am going there tomorrow morning. She is only about an hour away from me, and i am excited and flabbergasted at the same time that I could possibly bring home two fur-butts tomorrow for free. I am obviously going to look at their living conditions, and check them out, get vet info, and then if i do get any obviously have me vet check them out as well. So what do you guys think? I am being dumb or would you guys want to go take a look too? |
Wow! I would just say that you should be VERY careful. Bring someone else with you, don't carry cash with you, etc... |
I was thinking the same thing. This lady may be very sincere but you still have to be careful. If you go please take someone with you! And good luck if you do go, I hope you get two really cute furbutts!:D |
I'd have been at her door within the hour :o) When she said she ran a kennel, do you think she means a breeding kennel or like a kennel to babysit other people's pets? Either way, it still wouldn't matter to me. If she giving them away to good homes that's amazing. It tells me she's looking out for the best interest of these dogs. If she wasn't she would have dumped them at the local animal control shelter. Please, let us know what you find out and do be careful. |
I will be anxious to hear how it goes! Good Luck and NO I don't think you're being dumb! Just be cautious. :D |
I say go for it! But be careful too! It does sound too good to be true but then you never know! Good luck!:p |
I will be careful, I am taking my girlfriend with me, she is interested in one as well and her hubby gave her permisson too! Don't some of us just have the sweetest hubbies? Lol, I will post pics too if I get one. Oh, btw, I dont know about what type of kennel, but I am assuming that it was for breeding. Thanks guys! |
Wow, I'd go, hey if it works out and she has more, I may make the trip to go visit too, being as I am in Kentucky...just be careful and please keep us posted! |
There must be a reason that she is giving away all of her yorkies. Last year there was a "breeder" who was giving away all of her yorkies and it just was not good at all. The same woman also gave away yorkies on here before and a few members took them and they were in very poor health and cost hundreds of dollars to vet properly. Just because she sounds nice on the phone does not mean that she is reputable or takes care of her dogs properly. Recently I heard that this same "breeder" had her AKC registrations pulled from all of the dogs that she had breed. Just goes to show you that it isn't always what it seems to be. Did you say that she lives in Greenfield OH? What is this woman's name? If you do a search you will see the entire story and how it played out! Very bad situation. |
I guess desperate times calls for desperate measures... I do hope you aren't walking into a scam. I also hope that you are prepared to possibly see the worst in this kennel. I hope the story is what she said but do be cautious! |

good luck! |
Please remember that nothing is FREE. These pups will need to be vetted which should included a full blood panel, heartworm check and meds, dental and spay/neuter plus any vaccines. The dental is very important because of their age. This alone can run into hundreds of dollars. You need to multiply with times 2 is you take more than one. This is assuming they have nothing medically wrong with them and they are healthy. Just remember also that if they are coming from a kennel they might not be very socialized or housebroken. Be prepared for this as well. I hope that this turns out for you and your able to bring home a new little furbutt into your home but please be prepared. |
