Getting a free yorkie! Ok, it started out that I saw an ad yesterday stating they were giving away a free yorkie, well i personally have never seen that before, and thought it might be a scam so i called the number given and left a message. I just got off the phone with an older woman telling me that she used to run a kennel and her husband was put into a nursing home, she was moving into the nearest town and she couldn't take care of THEM anymore. I was surprised by the statement of THEM because the ad made it sound like one. She stated that she has boys and girls and the ones she told me about are 3-5 years. I asked her if I would be able to come look at them and possibly bring a couple home. So I am going there tomorrow morning. She is only about an hour away from me, and i am excited and flabbergasted at the same time that I could possibly bring home two fur-butts tomorrow for free. I am obviously going to look at their living conditions, and check them out, get vet info, and then if i do get any obviously have me vet check them out as well. So what do you guys think? I am being dumb or would you guys want to go take a look too? |
Wow! I would just say that you should be VERY careful. Bring someone else with you, don't carry cash with you, etc... |
I was thinking the same thing. This lady may be very sincere but you still have to be careful. If you go please take someone with you! And good luck if you do go, I hope you get two really cute furbutts!:D |
I'd have been at her door within the hour :o) When she said she ran a kennel, do you think she means a breeding kennel or like a kennel to babysit other people's pets? Either way, it still wouldn't matter to me. If she giving them away to good homes that's amazing. It tells me she's looking out for the best interest of these dogs. If she wasn't she would have dumped them at the local animal control shelter. Please, let us know what you find out and do be careful. |
I will be anxious to hear how it goes! Good Luck and NO I don't think you're being dumb! Just be cautious. :D |
I say go for it! But be careful too! It does sound too good to be true but then you never know! Good luck!:p |
I will be careful, I am taking my girlfriend with me, she is interested in one as well and her hubby gave her permisson too! Don't some of us just have the sweetest hubbies? Lol, I will post pics too if I get one. Oh, btw, I dont know about what type of kennel, but I am assuming that it was for breeding. Thanks guys! |
Wow, I'd go, hey if it works out and she has more, I may make the trip to go visit too, being as I am in Kentucky...just be careful and please keep us posted! |
There must be a reason that she is giving away all of her yorkies. Last year there was a "breeder" who was giving away all of her yorkies and it just was not good at all. The same woman also gave away yorkies on here before and a few members took them and they were in very poor health and cost hundreds of dollars to vet properly. Just because she sounds nice on the phone does not mean that she is reputable or takes care of her dogs properly. Recently I heard that this same "breeder" had her AKC registrations pulled from all of the dogs that she had breed. Just goes to show you that it isn't always what it seems to be. Did you say that she lives in Greenfield OH? What is this woman's name? If you do a search you will see the entire story and how it played out! Very bad situation. |
I guess desperate times calls for desperate measures... I do hope you aren't walking into a scam. I also hope that you are prepared to possibly see the worst in this kennel. I hope the story is what she said but do be cautious! |

good luck! |
Please remember that nothing is FREE. These pups will need to be vetted which should included a full blood panel, heartworm check and meds, dental and spay/neuter plus any vaccines. The dental is very important because of their age. This alone can run into hundreds of dollars. You need to multiply with times 2 is you take more than one. This is assuming they have nothing medically wrong with them and they are healthy. Just remember also that if they are coming from a kennel they might not be very socialized or housebroken. Be prepared for this as well. I hope that this turns out for you and your able to bring home a new little furbutt into your home but please be prepared. |

You've already been advised to take someone with you. I would suggest also, any dog you may bring home to quarantine them for a couple of weeks. Many of the dogs I've taken in with rescue have either coccidia, guardia, fleas....you name it...lots of things you don't want to bring home! Good luck!!! |
I hope you are including all the new, assumed vet costs in that "free" price tag. These kennel kids are some hard core messes in most cases. Also, emotionally, are you ready to deal with what may be in front of you? What if these are dogs who spent all their lives in the little cage and can't stand to be touched? What if they do that running in circles business? What if they are depressed? Just things to think about when it comes to getting "freebies" from mills...er, uh, kennels. If you do go get one or more dogs from this lady, I wish you all the best and hope everything is legit. |
I hope it works out!!!! Keep us posted. |
Good luck! Please keep us updated, and please, please stay safe. I hope that you take everyone else's advice and bring a man with you. It's better to be safe than sorry! |
I am excited for you and will be very curious to hear what happens! Let us know! Good luck. |
Wow, I'd like to think positively and hope that this is just what it seems to be. Is there anyway that you can get her vet information and call them to verify that she has yorkies and that they've been taken care of and so on and so on? Good luck and I hope it is what it seems to be! |

Hope everything turns out okay! Last year my Mia had a litter of 6 and my grandmother had told my that her neighbor of more than 50years had recently lost her german shephard and that she was getting ready to look for a new puppy. Knowing how much her neighbor had loved and taken care of her last dogs. I asked my grandmother would she like for me to give her one of my puppies as a thank you for being such a great neighbor and friend for the past 50 years. Now a year later I am able to see the joy that HERBIE has brought to an older womans life. All I asked of her was that she let me visit Herbie and her when ever I went to visit my grandmother. Was one of the best decisions I have ever made. That little guy is extremely spoiled... and travels with her everywhere she goes... bottom line.... There are free yorkies out there for those special people in this world:) |
I got jumped on for saying people believe everything they read and hear, so I will not say that. What I will say is what everyone else has said...nothing is free in life! IF there are any yorkies, I will bet they are a mess. What I am going to suggest is that you tell her to meet you in a public place. I would not be going anywhere to pick up a free yorkie...or two. No way, no how. Forget taking someone with you....just do not go! Unless you plan to take the police! :D |
I would not meet them anywhere, if it was a puppy mill you need to see what you are getting. More likly a dog that has never seen other people and been in a crate it's life. I hope not but that is what you can run into. And you may think "I can give alot of love and the dog will be fine." Alot of the puppy mill dogs never are fine, it sticks with them forever. I got a yorkie from a breeder and she was fine with me but you could tell somewhat scared. The breed would not let me in the gate that went to her kennels, but you could see some of the dogs, she had building with doggie doors, so my thought they are at least not in crates and never let out. What I did not know is that Maggie the yorkie had never seen any other people in her life!!! I have had her for 2 years she has lived in my home and loves me but is still scaried of my husband and 2 kids. Will run around the world to stay away from them. So if you are looking for a family pet to love and take places with you, do not get a dog that is scared and has not been around people. If these was good Yorkies, she could sell them, the free thing tells me they are scared, crated dogs. You will have vet bills becuase they have not been taken care of more like. I say all this with the more like because that is what I think it will be, just be careful. But I do hope that is not the way it is. Good luck let us know. |
Congrats hun. keep us updated. Take some one with you and have the dogs cet checked before you hav ethem around your own babies. GOOD LUCK!!! there are free Yorkies every where, you just gotta look. |

Again I remind people about the people who were robbed or murdered because they answered classified ads. You cannot be too careful. And...if there are yorkies...I can almost bet they are going to cost a lot of money in vetting. Nothing is free in life. |
good luck I wish you the best of luck... be careful... follow your instincts... post pics if you get one. |
Please keep us updated. I hope all is well and you are able to give these pups a home. I would definately take a few people with me just to be safe and make sure you have the back up funds just incase these pups are in need a treatment. Good luck with your new babies. :D |
I am hoping that you get to adopt a beautiful Yorkie. Look deep before falling in love with the pups. Please take some pictures for us if you adopt a Yorkie from this breeder and fill us in on how you chose your puppy. :goodluck: |
