my 1st york didn't bark usually and I loved him like that.
my 2nd barked abit but very calm still.
Now, i have 2 who love barking whenever strange noisy occurs around, very annoying for me.

Ok....I can totally relate to you. Roxie is just a little over 2 now and her bark is a whisper bark. Sometimes it's like a loud squeak. But mostly it sounds horse. When I had first got her she was pretty sick with upper respitory (kennal cough or whatever you want to call it). I thought maybe it scarred her vocal chords. I even thought maybe she was debarked or something or trach. problems. My vet checked her out very extensively and said she'd never been debarked and although her trach was extremely tiny (smallest breathing tube used during spay) there was no found cause for the faint sounding bark. We've always worried that she wouldn't be able to warn us if she gets into trouble because we couldn't hear her. It's amazing how tuned in I am to her bark. I never let her out of my site anyway. I'll have to see if I can get this on video so you can all hear it. She's very healthy otherwise and had no problems with her spay and tooth removal. Allot of people think we're lucky because she can't bark. She never gets in trouble for excessive barking because it's just not loud enough to be annoying. Nice thing is she's not a yapper anyway and you could pretty much sneak her in anyplace because no one would ever hear her!

Hi roxies_mom, glad Roxie is ok. That sounds exactly like Chewie except she is not sick with kennel cough or anything (yet?). He does sneeze every once in a while but I think it's something he sniffed. I'll keep a closer watch for that.

I am suppose to bring him to the vet in july for his first check and his shots but I might bring him this week if I can get an appointment instead.

I suppose I better use a harness instead of a collar on him when he gets old enough to take walks.

I want him spray too but reading your post, I guess I'll wait until he's older, maybe 7 or 8 months old instead of the 6 months I've had my poodle done.

On a sweet note, my toy poodle (Daddy) shared his food with Chewie. I gave Daddy the end of 2 hot dogs. (I can't resist giving him some human food sometimes lol) He ate the breads and one wiener and brought the other wiener to Chewie! ahhhhhhhh brought tears to my eyes. It was a kodack moment lol

His bark could still come around. I've heard alot of people say their dogs didn't bark the first year. Then they find their voices. While at times it's nice that she can't bark there are times I can tell she's just trying so hard to get it out. She ends up straining to the point where not even a squeak comes out. Otherwise she's perfect in every way to me. She's active, loving, playful, sassy, good appetite etc. I don't love her at all do I

My morkie, cookie was like that when we got her but after a few weeks she got her bark. It is still not real loud but big enough for her. She is only 3 lbs. She was about 4 months when she finally barked.

I have never seen a mute Yorkie or heard one, wait, it they are mute I couldn't hear her anyway. I've got a beautiful little girl Morkie that many days would like to trade for a mute puppy. Belle is very vocal to say the least! She has a different bark for almost any occasion, and now she has developed what we call a trill. She sounds like a loud bird, it's kind of cute except when she does it cause she's not getting her way, then it sound pretty pathetic. I bet your baby will be just fine, in a few months you will be missing the quiet. If your vet says it's catching let me know, maybe Belle will come and visit

If you are concerned that your puppy might get into trouble and you wouldn't be able to hear him, you might consider purchasing a break away (cat) collar for him with a bell attached. My Daisy wears one.....I swear that I can tell what she is doing just by the little jingle noises.....it clangs against her bowl when she eats, it makes a huge racket when she plays with the cats, etc.

Sounds like the perfect Yorkie!

I WISH mine was mute. He has a deep chested bark like a hound dog.

Then again, we thought he was mute when we got him. Don't be surprised if he finds his voice around 1 year old.

Like many of the previous posters, I have a furbaby who didn't really bark until she was about 5 mos. Before that, only a little airy kind of sound came out. Now she has a good, healthy bark... mostly when she wants me to throw a toy to play fetch, lol.
