| Nervous about 1st night away from my baby My husband and I are going to a friend's wedding out of town on Saturday and it will be the first night I will be away from my little Bella since we adopted her 2.5 months ago. The wedding is 4 hrs away in Birmingham AL and we will be traveling through Atlanta 2 hrs away where my parents live on our way to the wedding. We decided to take Bella with us to Atlanta tomorrow evening and all spend the night there, then leave Bella with my parents while we travel the rest of the way to Birmingham where my DH and I will stay overnight and then return to pick up our Bella on our way home Sunday. I'm just so worried that Bella will think we are abandoning her somewhere else with someone else. I don't know all her history but I do know she was left at a shelter and then went to a rescue and then was picked up by me and brought to live with us. She is so comfortable and well adjusted here at our house finally and I just don't want her to think we are "dropping her off" like has been done by previous owners. That's why we decided to stay the first night there with her. We don't have anyone near us who would come and stay with her and it seemed like too much to ask my mom to drive 4 hrs to stay with her in our house for 1 night... I definitely didn't want to leave her in a kennel and I know my parents will give her lots of attention and take the very best care of her, but I am still nervous about it. Maybe- I'm worried how I will handle the night away from her? I welcome any advice on how to make the separation easier on her (and me). I'm planning to bring her bed, (even though at night she sleeps in the bed with me and my DH), favorite toys, and a shirt I slept in to leave behind with my smell. Thanks for reading/listening |

| Oh I know how you feel. It's so hard to leave them behind. But the good thing is you know she is with your parents and she will be safe and well loved. It probably will be harder on you than on her. Your parents will spoil her while you are gone. She'll be fine, try not to worry too much. Glad you are taking her bed and toys and the tshirt. When you pick her up you will probably get extra kisses or if she is like my Laya you may get the cold shoulder but it only lasts a little while. LOL

| Thank you Yorkiepaws - I do hope I get the extra kisses rather than the cold shoulder- but at least you've prepared me now You're right- my parents will definitely spoil her. It's just really nice to have someone understand my anxiety. My DH thinks I'm more than a little crazy for the way I worry about her. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | She should be ok for one night, you will probably miss her more!!! I have to leave my 3 for the first time ever for 6 days and I am a wreck. My 23 year old dtr will be home with them, but I can't even imagine what they will be thinking when I am not home for 6 days.

| It's hard to leave them and you will catch yourself calling several times just to check on her I went to Vegas recently for a week and left Teddy with my parents. I thought about him so much while I was gone but when I got back to him I got the most warm welcome ever. The way she will act when you get back will make you feel so good!

| I feel your pain. Next week DH and I are going out of state on a short vacation to celebrate our anniversary. We are unable to take our dog and this is the first time we will be away from him overnight. We're going to my daughter's house to spend the first night away from home, and we'll stay there with him the first night. He knows my daughter well and has stayed with us at her house before, so at least that won't be too new to him. I trust my daughter to keep him more than I trust anyone else (she's the ONLY person I trust to keep him) but I can't help but worry about leaving him overnight. She has promised she will put a baby gate in front of the door so he can't accidentally escape, and will guard him with her life so he doesn't drown in her pool. The last time we stayed with her he fell in the pool and I thought my daughter was going to dive in after him, LOL. She didn't know he could swim and I know she'll be extra careful with him around the pool, and won't let him outside alone. I am taking his ex pen so he'll be extra safe when he goes outside to potty. I know my daughter will take great care of him, but I can't help being worried about leaving him. Good luck to all of us leaving our "babies" for the first time.

| Thank you all for your responses... Patti- I can't imagine having to leave for 6 days- Bella might be fine, but I think I'd have an anxiety attack. I will be sending you good thoughts, but I'm sure all with go fine for you and your babies. It's great that your daughter can come to be with them in your own home. jeanm1963 -LOL- I think you've hit the nail on the head- I will almost definitely have more separation anxiety that her! Teddys Mom - You are exactly right! thank goodness I know my mom will understand my calling her so much for updates- if she didn't get how leaving furbabies is just like leaving skinbabies, I'd definitely drive her nuts. Jokerman - I hope you are really able to enjoy that time with your DH. I'm still a newlywed and I worry a little that I neglect my DH more now that we have little Bella. He's already trying to plan a get away for just the 2 of us for our anniversary. Sounds like your daughter will give your baby the best of care. Leigh22 - I will definitely post an update and let you all know how it goes and the kind of reception I get when we come back! Good luck to all of you who have to be separated from your babies with upcoming trips!!! Thank you for all your sweet comments! |

| We made it! Just wanted to give yall an update on how our first separation went... My parents told me Bella did really well- they kept her on the same schedule I do and they said she wandered the house looking for me for a while after I left, but they distracted her with play and walks and she did really well. I also decided to leave a big blanket with my folks that Bella and I cuddle with on our couch at home and my mom said that was a really good thing for Bella to have. Since they gave me good updates, I was really able to have a nice night away with my DH. I was so excited to get back to her yesterday and thank goodness- i got lots of kisses and her jumping up on me rather than the cold shoulder!!!! It was a very happy reunion. Poor thing- she did get upset when I ran out to the store with my dad for a few minutes after I returned to their house. My mom said she got very paniced when I left that time, but we were back soon and she was happy again. At first she started staying even closer to me than normal. We got back to our house in Augusta last night and all seems back to normal now. YAY! I'm so relieved we all made it through! I hope all of you have as good luck with your trips coming up!!! Thank you again for all your support! |

| So happy things went well for the two of you. Glad you got kisses and not the cold shoulder! Sounds like the baby had fun at Gramdma's house. I bet your parents enjoyed having her too. They probably miss her now.

| Everything will be ok. I know how you feel. Nobody can take care of these babies the way we do. Sending you Hugs. Lissette |
