| Hopefully not a stupid question! We are pretty sure that we are getting our puppy tomorrow afternoon (trying not to get my hopes up). I think we have everything we need - Xpen, crate, toys, food, 2 doggy beds (couldn't decide which one to get), toothbrush, puppy shampoo, brush, Nature's Miracle, Nutri-cal, and we are getting a harness tomorrow. Anyway, we are not doing puppy pads, and we are going to train outside. My question for you is this - we are planning to go to my Dad's for Father's Day, and we don't want to leave Dakota home. My Mom passed away in Sept., and this will be a tough day for my Dad, so staying home is not an option. I heard that you can't take puppies out until they have all their shots - what am I to do? Can I keep Dakota in a pet carrier? My Dad and my Grandma (90 yrs) are looking forward to seeing Dakota on Sunday, but now I don't know what to do! Any advice is appreciated! |

| Does your Dad have any dogs? If so I would keep him away from them. If not I dont see a problem going there

| Congrats on the new baby. If there are no dogs at Dad's and no dogs have ever been inside the house then it should be ok. I would keep her indoors to be safe. DO NOT let her feet touch the ground outside until she has gotten all her shots. Sorry to hear about your Mom.

| Thanks for your quick replies! This will be the first dog in the family, and no dogs have ever been inside. If you can't let the dog touch the groud outside, how can you start potty training? Do I have to wait another month? Getting nervous now... |

| My vet said I could take mine outside in my backyard. You could take him outside and bring him right in after he goes. Youll be taking a chance but most likely all will be alright. Just make sure theres no dog poo in the yard

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Yes, like everyone's mentioned you don't want a puppy around other dogs, but they can be around people. By the way, since you are planing on training for outside, I read someone say that when you first bring them to your home, before you put them on the floor inside, take them outside to the spot you plan to have them use to go potty. They say it's much easier to train. Same thing when you visit your dad, instead of going into the house, take your puppy to a spot in the yard, (as long as their are no other dogs who live there), before you bring the puppy in the house.
