| Poor baby's nails about 1" long Some people make me sooo mad. Why would you wait to bring your dog to the vet or groomer when their nails are that long?? I had to take my Trixie girl to the er vet this morning and while I was waiting for the test results. This woman comes in with her poor little doo de doo dog. He looked like an older llasa. Anyway his nails were about an inch long and curled. He was having so much trouble walking. How sad. It only costs a few bucks to have the nails cut. I wanted to smack her. The poor baby was VERY overweight and walking with these curled up nails. I was just amazed.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Aw , poor baby. I too hate seeing overly long claws, it's not right. At that point, the quick is so far out, that it'd take forever to get it to recede - usually they cut them down during a surgery (if the pet is having one for something else) and cauterize them. How sad.

| You're right there could have been another reason she hasn't had it done yet. She can't be that bad of a mommy if she's taking her to the vet and trying to get her help. |

YT 1000 Club Member | ouch and how sad. it really doesn't take that much to have it taken care of. now she's going to pay high dollar to get that done, unless like one of the other posters said about maybe just getting the dog.

| No she had him for a while. I know this because she called him Coco and I have a Coco. So we kind of were talking. She told me that he used to sleep on the floor but now that he's older, he wants to sleep on the bed. She said she can't even go to the bathroom without this baby going in with her. He is very attached to her is what she said. But I was just horrified... this poor baby. I felt better that she was at least there to get them cut though.

| That is so sad... nails are just the very basic maintenance! If you cannot handle this... you really shouldn't have a dog

| I had a customer who has a mini poodle. She was kind of wacko. She thought her dog and Uni were twins. wtf? I saw the poodle's nails were so long and curled they looked like macaroni. The dewclaws had almost grown into a complete circle! i told her 12 yr old daughter the nails had to be cut. Next time they came in she said they cut one nail and the dog started screaming and the nail kept bleeding and bleeding, come to find out they tried to cut it down all at once! If I had know they were that dumb i would have explained to them how to cut a dog's nail! I felt so bad for that little doggy.

| This is going to be a very dumb, basic question, but I just have to know. How often is it recommended to get your pup's nails cut? (obviously I don't wait for her nails to curl like that, but I don't really have a set time to get them cut either; I also don't cut them myself because I get scared so I get a groomer or my vet to do it) So the quick actually grows? How do you get it to recede?

YT 1000 Club Member | Roxie gets groomed about every 6-8 sometimes 10 weeks and the groomer does them for me then. Not sure if that's the norm but seems to be working ok for us.
