Warm Weather ? I notice there are a few people that live in FL. I was wondering how often you let your furbaby out in the heat? It's been brutal here. Abviously I would limit her time but I'm even afraid to let her out for 15min. in this heat. I only let Coco out in the early morining and evening when it's cooler. I didn't even let her out last night because it was still around 90 at 7:30 pm. Am I being over protective? We bought her a baby pool but she has no interest in it and we have a pool but she doesn't seem interested in that either. I would love to try the beach but I'm afraid it's just too hot for her right now. She is only 5lbs. Any advice?

I live in S.E. Texas and it's hot here too...I walk Apple @ 7:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. for about 20 minutes...We may go out for pee pees for a few minutes, during the day, but I wouldn't leave her outside...But I wouldn't leave her outside by herself, anyway, because of predatory birds ie. hawks...BTW, I always feel the sidewalk, w/my hand, to be sure it's not to hot for her, and try to walk on the side w/the most trees...I used to live for the summers, but now I have Apple, I can't wait for the cooler weather...Apple weighs 4 lbs. 3 ounces, so she's small too...If she seems to be getting to hot (on the evening walk, I'll pick her up for a few minutes, 'till we find shady sidewalk...

Thanks. Fortunatly for Coco when I say outside I mean on our pool deck which is made to stay cool so her feet wouldn't be a problem. I just have no support because my family has always had large dogs. My brother has German Sheppard and a Lab. They just about live outside. He thinks I'm crazy the way I baby Coco and tells me she's a dog. He doesn't understand how fragile they can be.

| I gave up walking my fluffs outside as it is just too hot in Florida for that with full coats but I do let them out on the lanai early morning and sometimes 4 or 5 PM to get some rays. But they are also potty trained to go outside so they are out in the heat several times a day. They have no interest in playing outside even though we have a plush yard. But I do give them plenty of playtime exercise with fetching inside the house. The heat in Florida is brutal but I LOVE IT!!!

Shoot.....I don't have to worry about walking Brandi when it's hot. She won't budge . That's how I know it's too hot for her. Or if she does walk, she walks really slow so we will only go out for about 10 minutes. This morning the weather was perfect. We went for a long walk to an open field. No kids or other dogs so I let her off leash and we played tagged for a few minutes. I also was able to practice the come command.... and she did extremely well.. But then again....Brandi follows me like a shadow....not to mention she is scared of her shadow sometimes so I wasn't worry she run off to far. So the come command is real easy for her. Now that she has her morning walk, I can clean the house in peace (don't have to worry about any accidents). She is worn out. But we have a full day and Brandi will me with me all day. Brandi is about 5lbs as well. Last edited by yavenay; 06-13-2009 at 05:54 AM.
